Default Holding Recirculate button

Hi all,

After learning that the A/C comes on automatically when pushing the recirculate button, I thought holding it down might produce a different result.... it did, but I don't know what it was.

When I held the recirculate button, both the fresh and recirculate lights starting flashing. Anyone know what this signifies? I'd love to find a work around for the A/C coming on...... of course, then I'd probably complain that the windows fog up.

Mike

Thanks, Kwiker.

I searched here in a number of different ways but using terms like: holding recirculate button, result in too broad of a result since it finds every thing with "any" of those words. Maybe I need a search lesson.

If you hold it down until both lights flash, the a/c alternates between recirc and outside air.

That is WAY too easy of an answer... it must be something cooler than that like adding 15hp or allowing me to float above traffic....

out of curiosity, how long did you have to hold it? I held mine this morning for like 15 seconds and it did nothing...

I can't remember, but it wasn't too long.... less than 15 seconds for sure. It might depend on what was selected to begin with. i.e. maybe it only works with Auto off. Or with recirc activated first etc. I can try it again when I get home.

Mine is an 03, so it might not even have this feature.

If you have climate control then you have this feature.

You must have your a/c turned on (the compressor) and then just hold down the recirc button for about 5 seconds and both lights will flash. After that, the a/c will automatically cycle between outside air and cabin air.

To get some fresh air every once in a while....if the air you are traveling through is fresh. I went through some pretty rank air last weekend during a drive with some S2000 guys.

Interesting, so it will intermittently let in fresh air, but give you the efficiency of cooling the air on recirculate?

who would have guessed?

From: http://www.courtesyparts.com/nissan-...issan-350Z.pdf
pages 4-4 and 4-5:

Air recirculation/Fresh air

Each time the air intake button is pushed, the indicator light on the button will alternate (Air recirculation) and (Fresh air).

When the indicator light is on, the interior air is recirculated. (When the air recirculation mode is selected with the A/C indicator off while the fan control dial is in the AUTO position, the air conditioner will turn on.)

When the indicator light is on, the outside air is drawn into the passenger compartment. I - When the air intake button is pushed for longer than 1.5 seconds, both indicator lights (x and y) will flash twice, and then the intake air will be controlled automatically. During this AUTO mode, the indicator light of the currently selected mode illuminates.

I - When the air flow control dial is in the or position, the air recirculation
mode does not activate.

It has little icons in the text that I couldn't paste, so follow the PDF link to read it yourself.

That is exactly what it does. It will use recirc. on really hot days until the car is cooled a bit, then it will switch to outside air and, if needed, will switch back to recirc if it is required.

I really dig that feature on road trips.

Thanks for the research work!

I still wish you could select recirculate without having the a/c turn on. I wonder which wire I need to clip...

The reason the a/c compressor engages when you select recirc is to dry out the air. If not, your respiration would build up and it would become stagnant in your car and the moisture from your breath would build. The a/c removes the moisture while adding a small amount of outside air to keep the oxygen levels up so that you don't get sleepy on long trips and your windows don't fog up.
