I got a 20 foot roll for $8.99 at Auto Zone. It's called door edge guard. It has an adhesive backing that sticks in place. You just measure each of the three horizontal black plastic strips and peel off the backing and stick it on.

You cut it with some heavy sissors. I beveled the cut on the ends so it conformed to the shape of the grill.

Here is a close up:

Depending on where you buy, cost is $6 to $8

Install is as easy, just slide it on. All it is is the chrome door edge molding for trucks. Do a search there was someone who posted a pic of the package. We bought ours from R&S Straus.

Just installed mine today...
Got one at PEP Boys for $6.
But I didn't have any rulers and stuff to measure correctly, it turned out to be quite awkward..
And the chrome thing doesn't really stick well...gotta find some other way to stick it.
I found Mr.Bonz's Door Molding pretty much amazing...they are much more reliable and looks clean than mine
Gotta copy him

I bought the wrong thing! All this time I never realize that it sits on top of the grill. Looks like it curled around.

Yeah. That is the stuff I went looking for but they didn't have any. I got the stuff I got to see if it would work and it did. I figured if it didn't it was only nine bucks.

Default Seal the ends

If the chrome strips you are using are really plastic with a chrome plastic layer (which I think they are) you should probably seal the cut ends. Water can get in the end and de-laminate the stuff eventualy.

This is a common modification on the PT Cruiser groups (my wife has a PT) and they usually seal the end with silver paint, silver paint pen, or at least clear nail polish.

I like the look on the Z. I might do it to mine.

Default Two types

There seem to be two types in use in these pictures. The "half round with a flat back peel-n-stick" trim just sits on the top surface of the grill slats.

The "door edge guard" does wrap around the leading edge of the grill slats.

Personally I would got for the door edge quard. But it is a personal preference thing for sure.

If you use the peel-n-stick be sure to clean it well (remove the wax) before sticking the stuff on. Give it at least a day to dry before challenging the glue by washing the car or anything.
