Tape from emblem removal..
I am putting on my black pearl emblems today, and it is miserable trying to get all the old stcky stuff from the previous emblems off the car..
Is it a must to get it mostly off before putting the new emblems on or can you just put the new ones on top of the old?

I would not recommend putting the new emblems over the old stuff..... will not sit flush like they should and may not stick as well. I have used this stuff called "goof off" and it works great!!! I picked it up at local Target or Wal-Mart.

dont know about acetone..... The goof off worked pretty fast. I just soaked the glue/tape spots with a towel full of it... after the first time I did it again just to get a few spots the 1 round didnt get..... then waxed it up. GOOD TO GO.

adhesive
a solvent will soften the foam sicky stuff. use 3m or any other auto tar and adhesive remover. make sure the area is clean and free of grit. this is also a good prep for the new emblem as it cleans and removes products that may hinder the adherance of the new emblem. i did most of the work on mine just vigorously rubbing my thumb over the stuff until it balled up. you really should have a solvent in your detail kit. it is great for road paint, tar, gum etc. it removes all waxes and silicones, but not your car'spaint. body shops use a small plastic wheel that spins and removes this foam adhesive with friction. it just zips it right off. friction seems to be the key.
these are the steps.
clean area
soften the adhesive with a solvent soaked towell.
rub it vigorously with your thumb
clean any residue with more solvent.
apply new emblem

you can use brake pad cleaner... just put a t shirt over the area you need cleaned, spray that ish on...count to 10 and whipe. I just took the emblems off my car... that worked well on the 350z emblem adhesive... not so much the Nissan hockey puck one tho...
