Default Taking apart the headliner

Hey guys,,,,I hope this is not a repeat...if so I do apologize. I have searched adn searched here till my eyes are burning.

I had a re-cap fly up on the interstate and tag the roof of my car. Its a very small dent,,,no creases,...I took it by a local bodyshop. The guy looked at it and said,,,yes,,they could do it,,but would be about 75 bucks. As I walked back to my car,,,he walked out with me and told me,,,,"if you take down the headliner, you will be able to easily pop it out yourself".

Has anyone removed or taken down their headliner,,,,if so,,,,can you help me out as to what to do, look for, ect. ect.

I have taken the whole interior of my car apart,,,doing my audio,,,,but never taken a/the roof liner down?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....Thank you guys in advance.

Again, if this a repost,,,I apologize. I did search and re-search...couldnt find any info. I have been on this website since I bought my Z almost 9mths ago. I know what it's like when someone doesnt search..

Please help...........

paying $75 to not have to take apart the headliner would be a better investment of your time, as taking it apart will take a few hours and make cause more rattles after you put it back together

by take apart do you mean remove the headliner? cuz that pretty easy...theres a lot of diy on it...but the basic rundown is to take the a pillars off, the vanity mirrors, the four clips next to the rear view mirror, and i dont remember how to take the center light area off or if it comes off with the headliner...

I took mine out today (07 base) it took me a total of 29 minutes. All that you need is a philips head screw driver and a flat head screw driver -Start by removing both of the A pillar Covers (The pilar that goes from the console to the ceiling, next to windshield) - they pop off, no tools required. then proceed to remove the lenses cover on the internal lights (pop them off w/ a flat head screwdriver) and then remove the interior components of the internal light (pop off) proceed to the sunvisors - remove the cover on the swivel base, you'll see two screws. remove them - proceed to the other side and repeat process- unpllug the wires on the conector and remove sunvissor. remove the other sunvisor base by twisting. remove the plugs on rear of headliner. the headline should pop off - start from pulling near the glass holder, then proceed to popping sides and rear will drop. I have done this twice, once on my 2003 (to run the sirius antena) and today on my 2007 to install radar detector and homelink mirror. feel free to pm w/ any questions

Hey guys,,,thanks a million. That video using the hairdryer and computer keyboard cleaner is awesome, but makes me nervous about my paint. I think with the instructions from " tourinz", I can get this done. Again, thank you all for helping.

Best Regards,,,

UPDATE:

Well, I got everything taken apart and headliner down....and wouldn't you know it,,,the ding is right in the middle of where the cross support is located. "FAWK"!!!!! So, I had a great morning taking everything apart to get the headliner down, just to turn around and put everything back together. At least I know how to do it now........

Thanks to all of you for helping me out on this. I guess I will try the dingking, if that doesnt work,,,,last resort,,,I will take it back to the bodyshop. I just hate anyone working on my car,,,, OH Well,,,,

Again, thank you all

Best Regards!!!

Since you took the headliner off, can you check if there's any unplugged connector hanging which is meant for "autodimming mirror"?

davidz33,,,when I dropped the headliner,,,there was a plug tucked up underneath where the sunglass holder is located,,,,I guess that is for the autodimming mirror. I have the 06 Z base,,,,but the plug was deff. there...

I have an 07 base and after gaining access to under the headliner, I can't seem to find the extra autodimming plug! The harness going along the headliner only has 5 wires. 3 for the maplights and 2 for the passenger airbag display.

Does someone have a picture of where the plug might be? Or if that plug wasn't on all units?
