Default Anyone seen a targa top Z??

well the title pretty much says it all.

just wondering if you either can get one from the factory with a targa top or if there is a shop that anyone knows of that can do this without degrading the structural integrity of the vehicle? this is one of the best things that I like about Corvettes is the targa option cause I HATE the look of convertables but still want some open air feel to the car.

thanks for the input.

yea i tried searching, but it just came up with articles with minor references to targa tops on other cars like corvettes and what not. but thank you for the links. looks awesome by the way to have a Targa Z. If i had my shop open already I would prolly offer this for around 3500-4000 installed(probably custom work at first until someone made a kit for it, but it could deffinately be done).

thanks anyway

You could get a convertible and combine it with the hatch from a coupe. If you had money and time.

it wouldn't be that difficult of a process. It would be better to start with a hardtop for simply the durability and strength of the framing versus going from a convertible.

always newbs posting about a Targa top. Search for 318 motorsports as that's the closest anyone has gone to a Targa top, but they didn't do any research or structural stability mods.

There is a serious ginormous thread here about it somewhere. Not sure the keywords to use but it was at least 10 pages long. There were pics, group buy pricing, etc..

But IMO you're better off just rolling down the windows of a hardtop.

It looks hot as hell, but I wonder how much that affected the chassis' stiffness.

in the parent thread, 813 told us that he didn't stiffen the body any more, as its only a show car

Yeah I know ... the Z roadsters with the top down looks like doo-doo. What the hell was nissan thinking?

Actually what I really meant was ... YOU'RE A GRADE A DOUCHE!

apparently, we are not entitled to an opinion and we are all grade A douches if we don't have the same line of thinking as dutchboy350Z.

I too think that a targa would be desirable over a roadster, simply cause the roadster with the top up doesn't do a thing for me With the top down, it looks good, but not near as good as the coupe. Dutchboy feels differently, which is why he bought a roadster, and why i bought a coupe. hooray for all.

Hell, I'd settle for a moonroof. I love the lines of the coupe but letting some sun in would be nice.

the short version, you can make a removeable top, but u have to leave a 3-4 inch structural bar on the left and right. it would essentially be a large removeable sunroof. that is the only thing you can do while maintaining structural durability and handling

I just think the word "HATE" is a strong word to use when describing a drop top Z, especially when you plan on buying the couple version.

Everyone obviously has their own opinion, but I don't know how someone can have a night/day attitude about a coupe/roadster. I bet a lot of people here forgot that Nissan designed the 350Z with plans for a roadster in the near future. They didn't just cut the top off a coupe and slap on a soft top.
