Default Do I remove 3rd Brakelight plastic for tint????

I am getting my windows tinted 20% all the way around (except front) on Thursday. It didn't even dawn on me that the third brake light plastic will have to be trimmed around. Should I remove it before I take it in to get tinted or should I let them trim around the plastic? Opinions, comments or experiences are all welcomed.

Cheers

Kevin

Ok, that's what i was thinking. I just didn't know if it was normal to get it trimed out or to remove the plastic and tint over it.

Does it effect the visability that much with 20%

Cheers

I think it looks stupid when tint shops trim around 3rd brake lights. Just tell the shop to be sure to tint that part as well and they will pop the cover off for you

If you're tinting it legally and want to stay legal in most states it needs to be trimmed (otherwise you can be sited for no visible third brake light). If not then have them remove it and tint behind it. They should do it anyway IMO, as it's part of the job.

Cutting brakelights takes alot of practice since it's all done by hand. It's not that hard to do cleanly (especially on a Z since the plastic sits right on the glass and can be used as an exceptional template) but then again I've been doing it for 10yrs now.

how do u pop off the plastic? First time i got the tint done, it was the whole back window..but then there was a bubble/crease where the brakelight was. They couldn't fix it and I had to schedule an appointment to redo the backwindow. I noticed that plastic piece was kinda mishapped caused cause they had to bend it to get the tint behind it.

Anyways...I got the tint redone and they had one cutout where it goes around the brake light..and i opted for that so they wouldn't mess up my brakelight cover. I like it, but it does look kinda weird...so now I am having 2nd thoughts about doing it for the whole window instead like i did originally.

I haven't looked in the manual, but in case its not there and anyone here has experience taking it off, can they indicate the steps?
