Default Veilside CF hood - broke!!

Yea, not 'broke' because it costs so much, but broke as in a sumo wrestler jumping up and down on it from Japan to Miami. Got the bonnet today, and it's completely destroyed. The CF epoxy has cracked off right down the two bonnet lines in the centre. And all the fiberglass on the inside is completely screwed up, popping off in some places, and busted off in others.

I think I'll go slit my wrists now.

I wasn't in the frame of mind to take pictures but I will I guess tomorrow. I'm going to obviously keep it and try to just send it to a body shop to fill out the areas and just paint the whole thing body colour. It was inverted when I pulled it out the box, but I just pushed my knee in the centre and it all popped out back into shape, which I guess is the only good news I have.

I was supposed to get an ASUKA DESIGN bonnet, but my friend knew I really wanted the VEILSIDE one, but I just didn't have the funds for it at the time. So he went ahead and bought it for me, so I could pay him back after a while. WELL.... Now, I don't have ****!

Bye world.

Why did you accept the shipment when the hood was in that condition. There is no way I would have signed for that hood. Call up your vendor or Veilside and get a replacement.

Veilside hoods are the $hittttiest products I've ever seen... my fiberglass hood was so thin, you could literally see through it before my shop added to it.

yea, pics will be up tomorrow. The problem is not Veilside. I mean I dont know if the fitment woul have been good, but as far as shipping they did nothing wrong.
The hood got to miami in good condition (sorry about misleading you with the whole sumo wrsetling thing, it was a joke..., anyway). It arrived in miami okay, so the hood must have been damaged either on the way to jamaica, or in the truck from customs. Trouble is i wasn't there at the customs to chck the bonnet. The guy who cleared the bonnet is going to try and see what the next step is. I'm sure he can claim something back for it. It's not in my name so I can't do much about it.

Anyway, he told me he did have the asuka design hood, but it's in miami, so we're goin air freight that one, it should be a lot safer.

Let you know what happens, and I'll send pics tomorrow, if I go back before he does whatever he needs to do with it claim damages.

Man, sorry to hear that.

Did you buy it from VeilSide USA?

We rarely get damaged product, but every once in a while it happens.
You need to check it out before signing for it. The truck guys usually ***** about it, but too bad for them. Once you sign for it, it's a pain to solve.

About the hoods - we rarely even get calls or complaints about fitment too...
and "so thin you could see through it" - I don't remember seeing through hoods before. And, generally, you don't want a thick fiberglass product.

I personally was VERY shocked with our FRP Z33 hoods. I got one back that had been broken in shipping (it was a corner...the box was DESTROYED, so it wasn't a shock) Anyways, I decided to jump on the middle to break it and throw it away. Well, after 15 jumps on the middle of the hood, it never broke nor cracked. This boggled my mind. Then I found a 10 pound sledgehammer head and figured I'd throw it right through the center. Again, nothing. It would bounce off every time. I even threw it at the vents (V.2 and V3. have these) and that took about 3 times before it actually broke.
I never would have guessed FRP hood could be that strong.

Sorry man, I called you guys and your response was "Most bodyshops don't understand how to properly prep JDM hoods." You could not accept the fact that your product was crap. It was an insult to my shop that does custom work all day long. At that point I decided to pay the extra money to make this work. Your offer to exchange the hood (but I had to pay for shipping) wasn't an option as I seriously doubted I would be getting a better hood. And yes, you could see through parts of the hood before my shop decided to add more fiberglass to sturdy it up. Even after the multiple bakes and extensive prep time, their still are pinholes here and there. I'm sorrry, but this is the second or third Veilside hood I've seen in person that is absolute garbage. I will never buy another veilside product again. There are other ppl on this site with complaints, but I won't make any comments since I havent seen those in person. My shop also recommended a heat shield under the hood (which I did) to prevent bubbles and what not.

Sorry to hear that man. The same thing just happened with my splitter, only it was coming from California. The ups guy was walking to my door and I could see the corner of the splitter HANGING OUT OF THE BOX. It looked like someone had rubbed the corner on rough asphault for 30 minutes. I denied delivery...that was a month ago and still haven't heard anything about it yet

I hope you have better luck.
