Default Front License Plate Issue SOLVED!!

Looks like a no-brainer to me. Choose from a variety of tie-wraps to fasten your plate to the grille.

As long as its easily removable.

All I see when I look at that is 33% air flow blocked.

Default Air Flow and Cooling - No Problem

If the grille area were the only location for the radiator to draw cooling air, I might agree. But there's plenty of places for air to flow. Miata owners regularly fasten their plates to the grille area without any problems. I ran mine that way for several years in Missouri summers with no problem with cooling.

Is it possible to perforate the licence plate without running into problems with the law?

Haha, only one way to find out!

Anyone have a really strong hole punch? Maybe of multiple lengths too?

this might solve the problem of a dealer saying it MUST be attached when it leaves the lot...
You can always turn the corner and take it off!

Cool Front Plate

For what it's worth --

E-Mail from NNA dated 7/19/02 states "the positioning of the front license plate will not interfere with the flow of air to the intake or cause over heating as it was tested and designed for all types of weather conditions".

I'm saving it just in case. I don't know about your weather, but here in Vegas, 105 degrees is a nice comfortable day.

Looking at the latest 350Z images, you can see there is something blocking air from flowing through in the middle of the grill anyways (or atleast I think that's what that thing is, see pic.). So there might be no problem putting it there with with some plastic retainers and not have the car overheat.

Does the plate have to be at the very front of the car or only visible from the front? You could just stick it inside the front windshield couldnt you?

Hey I never noticed the outer sides of the grill are blocked off. That pic up there really shows it.

I also thought of that's where I want to put my front plate. I went to see the 350Z the other day and took the pic of the grill and I saw that.

anyone who is interested should check out this thread:

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....&threadid=2271

the thing that looks to be blocking the airflow under there is the mount for a tow hook. a piece of the grille pops out, and you screw in the hook (which should be with your spare tire etc.) It shouldn't be all that hard to make a license plate frame that screws into the tow hook mount.

First off for california residents, it is illegal to have front license plate in your dash or front window. Secondly zip tie the plate is also illegal, but probally womt get hit for it. Reason zip ties are illegal is because they are considered nom durable.

My post from the other thread...
