Default Clear bra sucks!

Keep in mind that there are very few installers around my area of the country. Last Saturday I went and had a clear bra installed on my car. Two hours later I get my car back and it's a complete joke. Before I had it installed I asked the owner if he had previous experience and he said that he had done a few including his own vehicle. The web site said that it was a very easy install. I just got done e-mailing the company to see if they could do anything to help. I feel like I just wasted $400.

Make sure you get a good installer!

At least I wasted $120 for it. My installer couldn't do the main part which is my bumper. Should've never done it; it's a lease anyway.

Default Why not have the front bumper cover repainted?

I don't mean to **** anybody off, but it seems to me it would be better to have the front bumper cover repainted with REAL paint, instead of paying several hundred dollars for the clear bra.

Wouldn't it be cheaper?

Default I'm sorry to see that mess up job your installer did!!

I wouldn't have accepted the job if I were you...meaning I won't pay and would probably ask him to peel it off!! Depends on which company's clear bra product you use, go to their web site and check available local installers. I'd also write to the company and complain about the installer....if he is in fact a trained and athourized installer!

Good luck!

Hey KGB,

I have the clear bra, and I love it! How many times are you going to paint your bumper? I plan to keep my car for 4 to 6 years, and I think my investment will definitely last that long without ever worrying about the front paint. Just my $0.02!

Huh, well, I did look into getting a clear bra installed. I was going to do it, but I got some advice from some guys who had it in the past, and they told me not to get it. Now this is what happened to them, guess everyone is different. They told me that their bra browned and got darker when the car was parked in bright sunlight. They were unhappy with the bra, tried to get it removed, but the bra was stuck on the car, and they ended up repainting the front of the car after the removal of the bra. Again, others have had good experiences, so I really don't know who is right at this point. So I decided to wait a bit.

Although, I really want the bra, I have to ask, of the guys who like their bra, how long have you had it???? I know that it really depends on the installer, but I have heard some bad things about the bra itself over time that scared me.

If I have it painted, it will be a one-time deal. I am counting on the fact that 'real' paint stands up better to rock chips, and looks better too.
I have my concerns about the clear bra standing up to the elements, sunlight, etc..

Buzzdsm,
I know how you feel. It happened to me last fall when I got the car. I went to see it and proceeded to rip it right off the car, in addition a razor blade was used and there cuts in my paint.
I made him give me new material since I had supplied the material.
I have not found somebody I can trust and now I have two brand new sets which I might sell on e-bay. For now I purchased the Colgan bra which fits pretty snug and protects the paint on the interstates. It does not look as good as a well installed clear bra, but it seems that is an imposibility in the northeast.
I feel your pain.

KGB,
The paint that I had put on my Nismo style front end was Ditzler/ppg and it doesn't hold up much better than the oem.
The front still is chipping.
The paint was done right by a good street rod shop.
I had a problem in my paint when the car was new and when the Nissan rep checked the thickness the paint in the good areas was 6mil. thick, so it really isn't that the paint is thin from the factory.

Why are you guys wasting your money on these pre-cut kits? Go to a custom installer that will wrap the edges. Well worth the extra money IMO.

I have a Chevy '98 Z28 that is more than 5 years old now and the paint on the front bumper is in good shape. The car is dark blue, too. Chevy clearly used a more durable type of paint.

The paint on the 350Z's front bumper cover almost seems like nail polish in comparison, it's so brittle. Of course, it doesn't help that the Z's frontend is relatively blunt.

Clear bra installed by a good installer that cuts it from scratch is very clean. These pre-cut jobs suck. I just spent $800 re-painting my hood and bumper. Clear bra is now a must have.

I agree I guess, I dont have a clear bra, but I saw the 3M dealer for I guess atleast GA at hotspot tinting, we talked and I looked at his car(S2000) with a bra and it looked AWEFUL! not the install, just after 40000 miles it had SOOO many visible dings in it it needed to be pulled off, sure if he pulled it off he'd have perfect paint I guess, but then he'd have to have it reinstalled for like 600$ atleast for a good job. if it was invincible, and didnt show marks from rocks, itd be great, but if its just taking the hits for the paint, its like covering your couch instead of redoing the fabric. if you stain the cover, it has to be replaced, and if the cover cost the same as replacing the cushions, whats the point? may as well atleast have nice exposed paint for it.

yeah, it does make me wonder. The guys that I heard it from have a lot of money (professional athletes) and they are usually first in line for a product like this and will spend the money to make their very expensive cars look good.

I assume that they used 3M like everyone else, will try to get more info, cause I still am very interested in the clear bra.

My $300 investment!

The last time I felt this bad is when I lost $500 on XM radio stock.

At least it was pretty easy to remove. Only took me about 15 minutes.
