You can always get the flush pins that don't stick out.

how would you unlatch the cotterpins if the hood had built in rods?

why not use a pin that allowed the hood to pop, but not allow the hood to go any higher without removing the pins, then build in some kind of release mechanism from the underside of the hood, near the front where you'd be releasing the latch?

obviously you can't keep the same design hood pin and have it not be visible

all that just to hide two small metallic cotter pins.

i dont understand why people are afraid of drilling into the hood to install pins or have pins showing.

when

asthetics > safety = everyone loses.

you guys wear seat belts don't you? that'll wrinkle your shirt so you better not use it.

come on.

Drilling into carbon fiber can be a real stressor for some, since if it's not tackled just right, you can be left with a nasty crack.

I agree with you completely though on the safety issue. I'd never get a CF hood without pinning it up.

gimme a break, i didn't say don't use pins. I just expressed that i wish i could have the asthetics of no pins with the saftey of having pins.

If the body shop guys ever finnish my Veilside 3 hood , I'm installing two small safety cables , to the underside of the hood to the latch area brace assembly, just in case...

I have thought about doing this myself, how do you plan on attaching the cable to the hood and then the engine bay?

the main idea of pins is to avoid relying on anything being glued to the underside of a carbon hood.

even if u had a safety cable attached to the latch, the latch is still glued to the underside of the hood.

the latch is probably the 2nd most common place of failure. #1 is at the edges of where the top surface is attached to the bottom skeleton frame along the edges.

well. for those that want looks and dont use pins. i say "Good luck!" and hopefully i wont be saying "i told you so"

I know of 2 EVOs both with Seibon hoods with NO PINS driving for over 20k miles each with no known issues. They both see regular 120mph+ runs.

Default Another hood pin forem

There's a Builtin safety latch, on my veiside replica 3 hood just like the oem hood .. but also don't really care for the pins on a Z , so I put two safety straps under the hood that have a quick release on them ..think they are really made for small dog collars, converted to use under the hood. so far havent had to test them ...

pins are sorta like Airbags.. as well as every other safety equipment on the car.
you hope you never ever have to use them, but when you do come to that situation, you'll be glad you had em.

So your first post is to bump a thread that's 16 years old, and ask a question that's already been answered?
