Default For those with hood pin questions**pix**

For those of you are that debating/ questioning getting hood pins, or for those that want to witness what can happen without hood pins, I have a few pics, and a nice story to tell.

Im currently running an OEM Seibon Carbon hood, and have had it on for 3k miles.

Two days after I moved to Tallahassee, I decided to go for a drive, after 4 miles, my hood flew up at 45mph!! Thank god I was able to get over and off the road. I couldnt see a thing!!

After getting out and examining the damage, my fenders were bent up, my windshield was bashed in, the wipers were trashed, the hood was cracked in half, and the roof was collapsed.

Let me say, I just about **** myself!!

Sad part is, I was about to order pins later that day. The hood was completely closed, im thinking it was latch failure

Before:

An hour after:

After about 3 weeks of being in the body shop, the door panels, and most interior was stripped out, I blacked the visors and headliner. All that needs to be done is put in the hood pins. I bought the Aerocatch hood pins flush mount with locks. (Im not gonna have to deal with something like this again.)
And finish putting the car back together. Then wet sand and buff. I cant wait to get my car back.

Only 1 week of boosted miles, and it was taken from me!!

The final estimate was $7000, I couldnt believe it!!

All I have to say is thank you Allstate!

Enjoy guys.

P.S. Dont ruin my thread with B.S. posts, Stay on topic!!

Hood pins = $35
Having your hood not pop up while doing 90mph = priceless

I'm glad I have mine.

I know of certain companies who would pay for that damage if the latch failed.

Not sure about Seibon.

So this would have happened with your OEM hood?

Hard to believe. This would be the first time I have heard of that. The OEM latch has 2 locking mechanisms. One holds the hood down, and the second one is to keep the hood from popping up during driving if the 1st one should fail.

If it's the latch on the car... Nissan is going to have some recall issues.

BTW - I know of one well known company that had this happen on one of their first hoods. They paid for the repairs, paint, and towing.

No I will not reveal the company.

Sorry bro, sucks to hear of this happening.

Got me thinking of getting some of those hood pins now. I'm just concerned they may have to repaint my hood if I do install some.

By the way, this also happened to Bull (the guy I who owns the TS widebody Z I took pics of a while back). His Seibon hood snapped in half and did the same thing when a semi truck drove by and threw up a gust of wind.

You are turbo'd and had no hood pins O.o

I just got my hood yesterday. I have the Aerocatch hood pins waiting to be installed, bodyshop is too busy and might be able to squeeze me in this Friday.

So? I've never had them. My hood's been perfectly fine for 2 years. Besides, being turbo has nothing to do with the hood snapping. An NA Z is every bit as likely to suffer from it...

I never said a NA Z would not suffer the same thing, but you would think somebody with turbo would likely try to go to the limit, hell, I don't think I've even gone pass 160km/h.

And to me, hood pins is just a peace of mind. I think I would have a better driving experience without anything in the back of my mind thinking my after-market hood would snap back.

Right now, I'm driving like a granny until my hood pins are installed this Friday.

Wow, that's crzy! I was debating on doing this, but my fiberglass hood locks well and my bodyshop added extra fiberglass for rigidity.

Just got mine installed:

I was there for the whole install process, Since this hood is very angled at the default hood pin holes in the 350Z, there was a lot of adjusting and modifications. Just be prepared for some stress.
