Temp Bra
im going out of town tomorrow..
and i was thinking of taping up my front end with painter's tape to protect it from rocks/bugs/misc highway trash.
a Temp bra to protect my front end. Does anyone think is a bad idea?
I'm asking because and i am scared that the residue might screw up the paint...
need some feed back thanks.

I've seen people put the blue painters tape on the front of their cars at autocross and track events. I've even seen somebody do it for the same reason as you (long highway trip). As long as it on for a short time and it's not melting in the sun then it shouldn't be a problem. Even if it does "melt", Goo Gone will take any residue off.
I've had it on my car all day long in the summer heat and not had a problem with it leaving any residue.

I'm about to drive my car across the country and I'm considering the temporary bra approach. Has anybody tried Plasticover carpet protection film for this purpose?

The FAQ says it may leave adhesive residue but that the residue can usually be removed with a citrus-based cleaner.

I used one of those screendoor lookin universal fit bug bras once and it did the job. Come September/october down here the love bugs have their sex everywhere and the bug bra caught most of them.
I always wondered if just a few layers of clear plastic cling wrap would do the trick for quick road trips, but I dont know how that would affect the paint. So Id say painters tape would be the best bet

the only problem with the plastic wrap type is the edges lifting up and flapping in the wind, and also coming off and getting stuck else where-
blue 3M painter's tape is a realtively good protection from bugs and rock chips- and you can draw on it like "Move Over" backward or something...
just get the really wide version, else you'll be making several passes with the skinner stuff.
