I have a Seibon TS hood and after about 6 months or so it has yellowed greatly. Dubai might be searingly hot but all the other exterior CF parts on my car were not affected (the CF side mirror covers have been on 9 months and they are like new) Im not sure if this is a gel coat issue not providing enough UV protection. Most importantly is it repairable?? maybe sand it down and respray it with new gel coat???
any help would be great. I dont want to be forced to purchase a new hood

Even though Seibon will tell you, you don't need it because they already put a clearcoat on the hood to help with it not turning yellow. But when I recieved my hood, I went ahead and had a couple of clearcoats added. I don't think Seibon uses alot of coating on it. But my car doesn't see alot of sun. But I took all means to make sure this doesn't happen.
Marvin, the Seibon products are likely made with a polyester gelcoat. Unfortunately if it isn't an epoxy clearcoat, it will begin to fade in a short time. If you have alot of salt air like i suspect could make it worse. Your best bet would be a true dry carbon hood with a automotive clearcoat. Dry carbon hoods are usually pricey, but we will have one shortly for the 03-06 Z. They will be around $800. How did you order your hood in Dubai?
every carbon fiber product that sees sun needs to be clearcoated. You can treat it like paint after that. You can polish and wax to get out swirls and protect. I try to tell all my friend with cf dashes etc as well because through the glass, the heat is even worse. People are too cheap nowadays to get ti cleared but then people whine later about it. Just save money and time before you install cf.
Yes that is the other "killer" the heat from the sun collects in the carbon fiber, heating up and prematurely aging , weakening the resin matrix.

Generally what I've found with fading hoods is the heat "bakes" the resin causing it to yellow. If you catch it early enough you can sand and reclear the hood.

my ENTIRE top half of the car is carbon fiber now. The hood, roof, A-pillars, rear hatch, rear spoiler, B-pillars and side mirrors.
unfortunately only the hood has yellowed. the side mirrors were CF a lot longer than the hood yet still look great. guess ill just gel coat the entire top to be sure.
I have already purchased the Seibon VT hood with the small vents. The TS is the one that yellowed..
would this hood touch my engine cover with the plenum spacer?

I made a dry carbon hood a few months ago that i wound up scrapping when i was trying to locate mounting point for the aerocatch latches, anyway i cut too many test holes in it to use on the Z. So i sat it outside in April, and still no yellowing. My reasoning is that with a dry carbon part, there is little or next to no resin on the top surface on the part to yellow. It's all densly packed infused CF.
