doing it yourself? If you need advice, I would recommend paying someone else to do it.

Heres the other thread I started with no replies and some pics of the van.

Get some flat black spray paint. Spray. Helps if you sand the vehicle down first and prime it.

Spraying flat is the same as spraying Gloss----You Paint Mixer will just add a Flatner Agent to your likeing---Gloss--Semi Gloss--Satin--Matte--Flat.

The more flatning agent the less durability

holy crap, that is nearly exactly like my work van, right down to the same year and color of interior!! mine has 3 layers of pinstriped flames though, ha! (don't get drunk right after the purchase of a new pinstriping tool and have a big white van to practice on, lol)
personally, just stick with the white. paint looks to be in good condition and would be alot more desirable to someone upon resale than a flat black.

So lets see if I get this straight, I spray the black paint on first then do a coat of matte on top of that just like I would a gloss. Is there any kind of sanding involved after the black is sprayed or the matte.

U dont have that straight---I was refering to an acrylic urethane one step and just using my experience as a painter without ever spraying a vehicle Flat. Im sure there are possibly Base Coat clears for a Matte, but u are defeating the purpose of the "Protective" Clear coat. A flatener I guess could be added to the CC. All base Coats are flat until the CC is applied.

There are some High Dollar Matte cars out there and it is a newer trend and Im sure the products are very expensive

I suggest u do as Im fixin too----Google it. I wouldnt mind integrating it into some things in the future ---Bumpers, Door Handles, Mirrors, Interior parts

I'm thinking what I might do is just pull the bumper off and start with just that and and see how it turns out. If its good then I'll do the rest of the vehicle if not then I'll try something else.

My only concern with that is how durable will the paint be, since I won't really be able to tell just by seeing it.

I read on another forum that a guy was actually trying to do gloss black and he didn't do a lot of coats, or didn't sand enough for the clear coat and it ended up looking like a matte black. Maybe thats an option, just spray one or two coats of clear unsanded.

House of color has a good base coat clear coat for flats. Basicly you just add the flattening agent to the mix in both the paint and clear.

For the A-Team fan. Important thing make sure the paint you use is chemicaly compatable. Like not mixing naptha and laqure. For best results take down to metal, epoxy primer, sand, several coats of primer to build up the body. Couple of coats of the flat, color sand lightly, spray flat clear.
