Default Door Handles

Just curious if any other Z owners have or have had this problem. My passenger door handle on the outside of the car is getting air bubbles. Any ideas on what can be done or do I just have to suck it up and go to the dealer and buy one.

Hm...I'm not too sure if the door handle on the 03 Zs are metal or plastic with a metallic paint coating but it seems fine. I think I might get it painted black soon though.

We have seen this several times. How many miles are on your car?

Whip out the sanding paper and some paint. It'll be a DIY.

Who's got 'different' door handles? I'd be all over that. I don't necessarily like the Z's door handles.

After 40,000 miles, I would not ask the dealer for a warranty fix. Time to get them painted on your dime.

Save yourself a lot of time and trouble. Just replace the handles. These door handles are made of plastic and the color silver is embeded into the plastic....making the color impossible to duplicate. As far as painting them yourself or a paint shop doing it...don't bother. I've read a lot of threads about painting door handles and the majority have said that the handles will peel in a matter of time.

Do you mean it wasn't covered in the 3Y/36K bumper-to-bumper warranty? It shouldn't be considered a "wear" item.

The door handles are considered "trim" and are therefore covered for 12 mo. or 12K miles. The dealer might be able to get the warranty extended on them due to the fact that this is a common problem. The door handles aren't painted or metalized plastic. They're regular plastic with an aluminum laminate glued to them. The bubbles are caused by the glue failing and the laminate coming unstuck from the plastic. The only way to fix it is replacement. Sanding and painting will not fix the problem.
