Default Question about Carbon Fiber 'join' lines...

In regard to those lines in the carbon fiber. I used to have a DC5-R and I bought a JUN bonnet for it. It had those lines where the fiber is joined...

I was originally told that is good because it proves it's 'really' carbon fiber and not just a print or something else. Because 'real' carbon fiber only come in strips, you can't get a whole sheet to make a complete bonnet.

I've been wondering then how come my brand new VEILSIDE bonnet has no lines in it. Is it fake cf? I would have thought VS would never fake cf. WHen I look under the VS bonnet it looks like fibreglass, not cf. My JUN bonnet had a second molded 'skin' smooth painted undersection, so I never saw the under the top cf. I don't know if it looks like how the VS looks.

I love Asuka because they have it double sided cf (with no visible join lines), but it comes back to my original problem.

Was this person chatting foolishness? Does cf material come in big enough peices to make a bonnet from one peice? Or is it some 'better' quality cf (I'm guessin 1x1, although i dont know what that means), that only comes in thin strips???

Please help me out.

See my VS pics here. Does it look authentic to you? I hope it is, I paid the 'authentic' price for it. Lol.

carbon fiber comes in any size you want. Judging from the pictures your VS hood looks authentic. It's 1x1 plain weave and has a Veilside tag. It is normal for the underside to be fiberglass.

i used to have a FiberImages (do they still exist?) hood on my CRX and I can tell you for sure that carbon fiber is available in large sheets, you could see the sun through from the inside it was a very thin sheet with a urethane outer skeleton, very light.

Well, then I beg the question... why do some of the 'top' shops use this join method?

Are they being cheap? And then price gouging just for being 'JDM'. Twice now I've seen this. The Top Secret rear diffuser, and my JUN bonnet which was $1600.

To be honest, I hated it, but I just figured that guy (who is a big 'tuner' here in Jamaica) knew what he was talking about. It gave me a peice of mind that even though it was ugly, at least it made it more 'authentic'.

Now I just feel like a big douchebag, who got suckered! Lol!
