they repainted my whole hatch---be careful though, they will most likely have to remove the rear glass which can break very easily which will lead to another $150 or so on top of the original estimate.

carbon fiber hatch what?

no, i mean just get one.

for the price of removing spoiler, filling in holes, repaint, maybe new glass you could be well over half way to a cf hatch. if i were to do it all over again that is what i would have done.

if they break the glass upon the removal, THEY have to replace it. Doesn't cost you a thing

if they know what they are doing, they would tell you upfront "hey, we gotta pull the glass out and they usually break, we'll try our damndest but if it happens be prepared for $x"

that is the way it usually shakes out. if you know anything about auto glass you would know it is damn near impossible to remove without breaking

not the point, if they break it you do not have to pay for it.

if a shop is painting for you and they break something during the uninstall of a part, they are required to buy a new part to fix what they broke.

plus, you do not need to uninstall the glass to paint what you need done. They need to paint the holes they repair and blend it in.

so what your saying is even though it is a part that is included in the estimate that even if they break it they should pay for it.

bottom line is if you want a quality paint job they will have to blend much more than the localized area--hence removing the glass. but sure just go ahead and find a shop that will do it cheap and then come on here and complain about them when it doesn't turn out good.

I remember the master techs doing this down at the body shop. Damn, it's a hard job filling in those holes properly. You will have to weld (if you wanted done right) but it has a very very high chance of warping. Just a lot of work. If you guys are getting it done less than 400 dollars properly, that's a great price.

yes, if they remove it and break it THEY have to replace it. You really think you would have to pay for a repair shop breaking something that wasnt broken when it came in? You must get ripped off a hell of a lot.

i think you are missing the point here. there are consumable items that are needed to complete repairs. in this case the rear glass has to be removed to facilitate other repairs. it should not be reused but can sometimes. it is included in the estimate up front. its like the seals that go around windshields/rear glass--they have to be removed in the process and are very rarely salvageable, and i garauntee that if you have ever had a windshield replaced you have paid for this seal, omg you got ripped off.

do you buy oil drain plug crush rings? oh no--what a rip off

head gaskets should always be reused then huh?

that is all.

once again you make no sense.

it is not a consumable good. I have done business with many body shops and had many rear hatches repaired/painted and have yet to have a dealer try to get me to pay for this. As a matter of fact, I just called 6 local repair shops to test your theory and guess what? they all just said, you must have been dealing with the wrong types of shops.

oh wait, I am sure when you had your rims installed and they scraped your painted calipers, they made you pay for the repair (sarcasm, but it is probably lost on you)

edit: just called #7 and they said the same thing

bottom line, if its just the hatch they are goin to tape of the glass and not pull it.... waste of time, money, and life to just pull the glass when it has a high risk of breaking.... actually painted a full spray on a 350z and we didn't pull the rear glass.
