Default does the key have

that little chip in it?

i have an 08 350z base, and i was looking at getting a nismo key. i feel that a car such as wonderful as a Z deserves a key thats different than every other Titan, Murano, Sentra key.

the 300ZX had a pretty unique key, so why shouldn't we?

anyway yeah i was looking at getting this one off of ebay and getting it cut at home depot or something:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISMO...spagenameZWDVW

will it work?
do our keys have that chip thing?
the Z33 is listed under the chassis code listings.

on the ebay link you provided it clearly states

ATTENTION, THIS KEY DOES NOT CONTAIN A NATS (NISSAN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM) CHIP SO IT WILL ONLY FUNCTION ON CARS THAT DID NOT COME WITH FACTORY NATS SYSTEM, IN THE USA IT FITS B15 SENTRAS, BASE MODE TITANS, FRONTIERS, BASE MODEL 350Z'S, ETC, BASICALLY MOST ANY NISSAN FROM 00+ WITHOUT CHIPPED KEYS. If you buy this for a NATS system equipped car, it will open doors, trunk etc, but it wont start the car because they have a chip in the key.

I was under the impression that all Z's had the NATS. If not, sorry Base owners, you just aren't as important j/k j/k

Really? I have a '07 base, and I don't see any chip on my key.....Unless it is hidden inside something

You could take your factory key and hack it up to get the chip. Take the chip and tape inside the column and this one would then work correct?

It might, but then you have just basically disabled the security features.

Regardless of trim level, ALL 350Zs have a chipped key.

And BTW, they all come with an Owner's Manual.

True, but who reads Instruction/Owner manuals anyway?...:P jk, but I am used to seeing the chip on the outside of the key, so I was inclined to believe there was not one...Oh well, there's my new piece of data for the day

yeah, it is inside the black plastic cover at the top of the key. You can take it out of the key and make your car work on any old key, but it kinda defeats the purpose. Someone would be able to copy your key at the local convienence store and start your car. As it is now, they would only get in the doors.

No, you can't. If there is no signal from teh chip, the cr won't start. That's teh whole point.

I think he means if you were to mount the chip on/in the steering column.

Just bought a 2003 that came with one key (non-Nissan). Starts the car fine. What do you think the previous owner did? Bought through auction so can't ask.

I noticed an aftermarket security system was installed, but appears to be disabled...

where are you guys getting confirmation that ANY of the Z's have chipped keys?! most of the 2008 Nissan lineup has Intellikey Technology EXCEPT for the Z's. i drive a 2008 Base and would think if they went through the trouble of chipping my key, then they would have done Intellikey w/ push button ignition. but that's not the case.

that being said, i don't think any of the Z keys are chipped. and if i'm wrong, please post some solid info as to why, and i'll be happy to retract. =)

I took it to a key shop, and the guy tested my key for a chip...he confirmed it had a chip (unless he didn't know what he was talking about).
