Default clear film in front of rear tire

There's a clear film in front of the rear tire on both sides... it's bonded strongly to the body so I don't think it's part of the shipping protection... is it a chip protector?

It seems like an odd place for one... it seems like the area behind the rear tire would be more prone to chipping. It looks kind of ugly... the seam is really obvious on my black Z...

Does anyone else have this? Has anyone removed it?

(I know that this is a totally newbish question... flame if it makes you feel good. )

Its factory clear bra, for protection against rock chips. All Z's have this.

god I want to flame you for answering your own question and coming to the logical conclusion of what it is, yet still asking.

I know, that's why I opened it up for flaming... but I'd hate it if I didn't ask and six months from now somebody said "dude everybody takes that off, are you stupid?" So I thought better to get flamed for asking.

Anyways, is that spot really that prone to chipping? Has anyone peeled it off and regretted it?

I think it's so the front tires dont kick up any rocks and hit the fender, since the rears flare out slightly, thats why theyre in the front of the rear tire. Look on other cars, we arent the only ones.
