Because NiSSan is clever and that is what they used on the 350Z.

No. They just feel like metal to me. Probably that 'aluminum coating'.

they are aluminum! they can be polished out if you wanted. i just painted mine and sanded them down, yes, they are alum.
unless they did something goofy with the very first 03 models, they are alum. and i did toss the idea around of polishing them, but would not match the theme of my car.

their is a difference between polished aluminum and billet aluminum. being they are door handles and touched daily polished aluminum would change color and need polished almost every other day similar to polished brass. billet aluminum would not tarnish as easily and would look shinier alot longer.

It would match great with my chrome rims.

IMO I'd Powdercoat them or even better Anodize them, although if they are cast they might not match that well.

As far as billet handles no on makes them and if you want a machinist to take a block of aluminum and make a set for you, your talking 600-700 lowball price. Chrome finish you'd have to send them off, google and you can find some good chrome shops.

I'm not a big fan of Chrome parts unless its a big luxury car or old 50-60's car but I did almost have all the chrome parts on my last S4 sent out for Black Chrome including the wheels and emblems. If you do Black Chrome I do suggest a clear coat be applied as its not as resistant to wear as regular chrome finish.
When I went Z shopping I originally wanted a Black Z, would have been cool to black chrome any silver parts in and outside and get flat black rims with a black chrome lip and black out the rest of the car.
