Default Pulsing Brake Lights

So I was on the highway the other day and saw a Lexus RX330 have pulsing LED brake lights when he applied the brakes. I have seen this on Merc. SL's and BMW 6 series', but I was wondering if it is possible to put on my 2006 Z. Anyone know about this? Here's a link to a youtube video of what I'm talking about.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2clGRizVI_8

the pulsing only occurs under heavy braking...pretty sweet and a good safety precaution

It's very possible. I did a smaller version of that for a Honda F4i a while back, but his were MUCH slower pulses. Looked bad ***, but I can see why people would think it's rice.

I thought you meant sequenced brake lights.. or turn signals.. like the old 68 Cougar.

Not liking the pulse lights..

The facelifted 5-series does this too. The glow of the tails becomes much brighter under heavy breaking.

Yeah, not trying to be ricey here but it's something I think is good under heavy braking so people can know that you are stopping quickly from high speeds (like on the highway). The ones on that guy's IS are a little much but this is not ricey at all in person...If you watch any Mischief videos where the SL55 is weaving in and out of traffic you can see his tail lights do this. There's a reason BMWs and Benz's come with this, its a good idea.

Anyway, nobody knows anything about this as a mod? I was just curious

Like I said above, It CAN be done. I doubt there's anything "plug and play" available for Z's though? Maybe I'm wrong, but i've never heard or seen one. It'd have to be custom made.

Showing my age, but here goes.......back in the Eighties there was a whole line of 'Brake Light Flasher' adapters that a guy patented and sold through his company. It hooked into the brake pedal with a potentiometer instead of an on/off switch and when you stepped on the brakes your brake lights would flash slowly. The harder you pressed, the faster the brake lights would flash. The idea was to give other drivers more warning when you 'panic' braked.

Initially this was very popular with fleet cars and I read somewhere that New York City taxi's had them installed to lower their insurance rates. Some people claimed that it might have caused accidents by startling drivers behind you because it was unexpected.

Eventually the device was outlawed by the NHTSA because it was not an approved item that they had tested and it came under their jurisdiction since it involved vehicle safety equipment. These were the same 'pinheads' that limited lighting on cars to either 2 or 4 round headlights for decades and reluctantly let square headlights be introduced in the 1970's.

It sounds like someone (Mercedes or BMW?) has revived the idea and may have gotten government approval. Mercedes is very good at introducing 'cutting edge' technology but this one is almost thirty years old

That looks awful to me. I love the sequential tails though.

Yeah like I said, the ones on that IS are kinda ridiculous they look more like strobe lights...but I meant a slight pulse because thats all that it takes to catch someone's eye.

To be honest I wouldn't ACTUALLY do this unless it was something really easy just to check out how it looked, but I would never waste a lot of time/money on this. Thanks for the feedback guys!

The third brake light on my '06 flashes about ten times every time I apply the brakes and then stays on solid. I was actually considering digging through the manual to see if I could make it stop.

Sequence lights sure, but are strobe lights even compliant with DOT?

Motorcycles have been doing this for awhile, and I think that flash is sufficient...

If there was a module, i'd probably get it. That's a pretty good idea and will get attention QUICK.
