Basically the tape is there so it'll rattle less. Use bolts dude.
Not true!!!! I bought an AMG rear lip (from the MB dealership) for my for my CLK 500 back in 2003. It came with 3M tape. I even contacted AMG and they told me to use tape only (no bolts). Five years later, it is still there. I suspect I couldn't get it off now even if I wanted to.
So go drill some nice big holes in your car if you want, but it is just not necessary.
