I suggest taking some sand paper to the paint where the grounds to the tail lights are mounted.....because you wont get a proper ground and the lights wont work unless you remove some paint and get some bare metal....
mine works great.. i store it in the garage standing up out of the way...
I also bought the harbor freight spare tire as well - it comes with a U-boltfor a holder and mounted it on the tongue...

He is a update of my progress. So far, so good. I did upgrade their nuts, went with a little bigger washer and nut. On the wiring side I went with a Converter/Isolator I found cost $39.99. The converter part of this product works just the same as the converter only version only in one way. It will convert the tow vehicle with independent wires for car rear light function over to a shared wiring configuration that is needed for an American Style Trailer. The Isolator part of this product will isolate the tow vehicle electrical circuits from the trailer electrical circuits. Plus the isolator will provide the power and ground to the trailer to run its lights. The isolator will sense any input from the tow vehicle for example the tow vehicle left turn signal well tell the isolator to blink the left turn signal on the trailer. He also is my welding brackets, I would say these should be pretty strong.

diy installed hitch for the z. attached a few photos.. the wiring was simple but had some problems. installed a converter/isolater with direct current from the battery which fixed the problem on the 2006. assuming the issue had something to do with the tail lights being factory LED possibly sending low ohm signals. has a tongue max of 150lbs and tow capacity of 1500lbs.

I've always seen members inquire about a Z hitch, but never really seen one. To tell you the truth, this wouldn't be a bad idea for someone like me who travels in my Z to car shows. I could tote all my chit around on a small trailor. Only problem is, I have a V1 rear lip kit. It doesn't look like the hitch will clear the bumper lip...

attached the photo. inverter is on the bottom right of the image. ran 4 gauge wire directly to battery. plan on eventually replacing stock battery with a optima 35d. "d" represents deep cycle.

simple install since the battery is right above in the engine bay. wires were around 3-4 foot length and cut shorter for a clean install. used high grade automotive amp wires with a 40amp quality fuse holder. fuse should be no longer than 6 inches from terminal.

Do any of you guys use a bike rack in the hitch, like this:

Just wondering about your experiences of different racks and if you had any clearance issues.
What height above the ground does the receiver work out at?

I was going to post a new thread but found this one that documents the same issue!!! (Thanx Jason!!)
BEFORE BUYING A TRAILER HITCH FOR YOUR Z DOUBLECHECK YOUR BUMPER STYLE!!!
After much research I purchased a Curt 11483 hitch for my 2004 350Z.. It is only to transport bicycles back and forth to the track so I figured this was my only option.. (Yea, a hitch on a sports car is wrong, but so is leaving a great car in the garage when you go out for a beautiful day of riding with a friend )
Amazon and a couple of other vendors (Curt included) stated that the 11483 was the right one for a 2004 so I purchased it.. Long story short, when I went to remove my bumper cover I saw that the aluminum bumper was NOTHING like the bumper in the pictures and the hitch itself wwas too deep to fit on the bumper!! DAMNIT!!!
Because it was ordered over 3 months ago, I can't return it but I did find the proper hitch for the bumper style I have..
Have a look at the two sets of instructions showing the two VERY different bumper styles:
The listing for the 2004 350z adn G35 model number 11483 Instructions
The listing for the 2006 350z model number 11493 Instructions
I posted this so others might not make the same mistake.. My 2004 looks the same as Jason's and the pictures on body parts sites for replacment bumpers look the same for 2003-2006..
Thanx to Jason on THIS thread that showed the difference..
A vendor that changed their site for this issue HERE
Now I've gotta put the car back together and wait for a response from Curt on this issue to see if they'll exchange the right part..

hopefully trailering with the Z is not considered heresy. nothing has broke yet due to pulling which have trailered with the car thousands of miles. picked up the camper trailer from indiana and drove 1200 miles to south florida.
