Default Pulled over for license plate cover

So yeah I got pulled over yesterday for my tinted license plate cover. He demanded I take the cover off or he'll write me up for everything he finds next time he sees me. Just seems stupid because its one of those cheap covers you can buy from autozone so how can it be illegal. I put it on because I thought it looked ok. I live in tennessee so anyone else have had this prob or know if it really is illegal or did he just not get his donuts in the morning and was having a pissy day?

If it was one of those tinted covers, then yes I believe they are illegal

I don't think I'd hear a word here. On my bike I have the plate mounted on the swingarm right in front of the rear tire. You wouldn't even know I had one by looking from the back. I've had a lot of cops follow me, but never been pulled over for it. *knocks on wood*

Anything you do that tampers with your license plate is illegal. It "blinds" the vision for others to read your plate.

Yep it's illegal, and so is a tilted plate/ the plate must be visiable and horizontal and atlest 8 inches off the ground. And for the bikes becareful HP loves the under the tail or the ones mounted sideway's on the swing arm. But every state and every officer is different. You just got a nit pickey cop sound's like.

Cheers

Please tell me you ride a Harley and didn't mount it to the swingarm of a sportbike.

long time ago I had a clear cover on my plate because I didnt want to scratch the plate up (I had gotten a cool black license plate they used to offer for the D.A.R.E. program) ....cop pulled me over and told me doesn't matter that its clear... still illegal.. made me take it off.
