Default Gas tank door...

does anybody make a gas tank door or a gas cap. I hate the plastic door for my gas tank. I was thinking about replacing it with something like a billet aluminum gas tank door or at least get rid of that plactic gas cap.

go to www.courtesyparts.com for the cap. Can't help you on the door though.

Default Gas Cap Problem

Can anyone give me some advise on how to install the Nismo Gas Cap Cover. Got mine from Courtesy and cant see how it will go on.
Took the retainer ring and lanyard off but it still wont go on.

For some reason mine wont fit. I keep kicking myself because I feel like an idiot. But It looks to me that there is no way to
fit the Nismo cover over the existing cap without a cutting and trimming the plastic cap first.

Any ideas? or do I just need to start trimming.

thanks

Hmm, I went to check out the Courtesy site and noticed this as the description:
"This Nismo fuel filler cap goes over your existing cap to give your car that show car look."

Looks like it works in conjunction with - and not instead of - the OEM gas cap.

I've got a Daytona Blue and the gas cap and bumpers are inherently a different color than the body. Someone explained to me that this could have been solved pre-paint with additional primer being applied to the plastic pieces.

Until I find a viable alternative, I believe I'll just have my dealership paint my gas cover. The bumpers - I'll just have to live with as I've installed a clear bra and don't want that additional expense of another one so soon.

I'd be willing to pay quite a bit for a nice billet aluminum replacement system (ala mitsubishi Eclipse GT or Audi TT.)

I envision a nice C shaped trim ring and a brushed (to match the door handle) center cap that fits the car's hinge/release system.

Anyone with a CNC machine want to tackle this one?

Yea, I love that style of gas cap also. My friend had one of those on his old eclipse, it looks so nice.

There are also conversion kit for all VW using the Audi TT gas cap, but I got a feeling we are not going to get it.

The reason is all those cap are FLAT, and we have our gas cap on our CURVED "Fender Flare ", so I don't think any kit will fit since most of the kit are flat to begin with.

But I am sure it will be a hot selling piece if someone does make one. PLEASE!

Yep! I took that pic back in 2000 on one of my first trips to Brussels. It's quite a magnificent piece of engineering, but not in the best condition anymore. How do you know it.

I like the look of Tiburon's fuel filler as well, but it's just cheap plastic cover like ours. My 90% completed piece (holidays came and took away all my time) is machined T6 aluminum. Some day I WILL finish it and post pics. I promise.

In the mean time someone suggested getting a TT filler cover and seeing if it could be reengineered to work. I've got a friend in the salvage business keeping an eye out for a wrecked TT in the area.

I was born in Brussels and moved to the states when I was three. That monument meant alot to me because it was the earliest and only image of Belgium that I could remember...you know certain images that just stick to your head when your're a toddler. Went back there around 12 years old and saw it again it was amazing because it was exactly how I remembered it.

and 20 years later...

Now seeing it in your avatar, out of all places, gave me chills because I don't know if I was hallucinating or what!

Cool avatar. I have been there. It is really interesting, going from atom to atom. I believe they are atoms. Anyway, I lived in Belgium for 3 years. I loved going to Mini-Europe in Brussels. And of course Belgium choclate is the best!

And their pastry shops Rock!

Didn't care for the French but loved the Flemish.

OK, this thread is officially hijacked.

Don't forget about that amazing (10%) beer, the great seafood, and the friendly locals I don't think it would be wise for me to live there. I get into too much trouble.

I get to visit most western European countries, and Belgium and Germany are my favorites.
