Default Does anyone know or have had "water transfer paint" done?

I am thinking of having a custom or unique touch done to my interior trim.

I have a 08 SMB Tour, and want to have all of the interior metal/silver type trim 'water transfered' to replicate carbon. Some parts I can't get in carbon and this can be done for free (for me). The process is apparently common in the auto industry, this is how the faux wood trims are done. I have seen the carbon print and it looks very, very close to real carbon. Here is the process for those that aren't familiar.

The process is called Water Transfer Paint and it is done by a number of different companies. Step 1... the part is primed (usually with what is referred to as promoter...bonding agent if you will. Step 2 is the paint...this is the colour which bleeds through the transfer. Step 3 is the transfer this is when the pattern is applied. Step 4 is a wash. Step 5 is the clear process (usually 3 coats) Clear can be gloss or matte your choice the look is quite different. Then the parts are reinstalled on the vehicle. Depending on the part complexity all the steps take about 1 day to complete.

Looking for input - nothing was found on search,

Cheers,

No pictures yet, I will try and get some.

I am only thinking this an alternative to performance and pricey carbon,

Dress up the interior a little,

Water transfer painting and water transfer printing are one in the same. Here are some examples: http://hydroimaging.com/_wsn/page3.html

I've seen this on American Choppers, they did it in camouflage. Looked so cool, would be cool accent to the trim.

Actually looks very good considering it's not CF, but it's definitely better than that carbon vinyl crap.

faux carbon.... no good. because on sharp bends, it stretches the image so some of the 'carbon blocks' are elongated.. looks... not that great. it'd work with faux wood since wood isnt supposed to be uniform..

why not try something different, like an urban or digital cammo theme?

Elegant Wood Design is one of the best that does that type of stuff...I've seen it in person quite a few times...Just be ready to pay for it.
