Long Trip Ahead, Makeshift Bra?
I am looking for a way to protect my hood and bumper from getting rock chips etc. I was told that 3M Blue Painters Tape would do the job. But when thinking about it wouldnt engine heat melt the adhesive to my clear coat (if not the engine heat the sun?). Was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I could do. I simply do not have the money (nor want to pay the money) for a bra.

I never used it on my hood, but have used it liberally on my bumper, mirror caps.
Painters tape is great because it sticks well, provides pretty good protection, and is easy to peel off.

Painter’s Tape (Masking Tape):
Mask-off trim around the windshield, moon roof, back window, around side windows, badges, and door handles and any bodywork edges and joints as well as vinyl trim.
1. Scotch® Safe-Release™ Painters Masking Tape 2080 removes cleanly without adhesive transfer or surface damage for up to 60 days - even in direct sunlight.
2. Scotch® Safe-Release™ Painters' Masking Tape 2090 removes cleanly without adhesive transfer or surface damage for up to 14 days-even in direct sunlight.
3. Scotch® Masking Tape for Hard-to-Stick Surfaces 2060 does not lift, curl, or transfer adhesive This tape can also be used on rough, uneven or hard to stick to surfaces, conforms well to most surfaces
Remove tape by trying to keep to a somewhat horizontal plane don’t pull directly upwards. It is a medium adhesion tape with a flexible crepe backing allows for exceptional conformability to semi-smooth surfaces
ANYONE WISH TO SECOND THIS?

3M painter's blue tape will be fine. I use it all the time when traveling to out of town car shows. It will not melt to anything. Get the 3 inch wide roll. It's more expensive, but makes the job alot easier/quicker than the 2 inch wide roll...

I used this when I bouth my car in Houston and drove it back to GA. It worked great and came off clean... with one exception that was due to my stupidity.... I wasn't able to make it as smooth as some of the pics I've seen (looked about like the black G in the above link). Anyway during the drive some of it started to peel and was whipping against the paint.. once it picked up some dust it cause a blemish on my hood that would not come off. It wasn't noticable unless in certain light, but it was there. Not really a scratch, just a wierd spot. Anyway the moral is bring the tape with you and if it starts peeling fix it immediately by replacing it. Other than that it works great.

thanks for the tip I will def. bring some extra tape for this my only worry is it will stick over time and not come off clean (18hr drive). People have said it is good for up to 14 days. But IDK
