Default Chargespeed rear....what is this for?

Hey guys
I don't post much at all. I just enjoy reading all the topics.
But I can't figure this out. I bought the full Chargespeed body kit and I'm doing the test fit right now. On the rear bumper, what is this area cut out for? I never noticed it before in picture before I bought it. I can't mount my
license plate with this hole, I'm going to have to fill it in or something.

Which is another grip I have about this so called high end body kit. There are casting marks and cracks on every part. I'm going to have to full and sand it all myself before paint. I didn't except the kit to be totally ready for paint, but come on. This is bad. It's something you would expect from a cheap ebay kit. I'm so disappointed.

WTF? I've never seen or heard of a hole like that in the Chargespeed rear. I would feel the same way you do about an expensive kit like that not coming in near ready to paint condition. All kits will take a little finessing, but by the way you made it sound like it's worse than a light sand needed.

Yep, that is the way they come I have no idea why. I had the bodyshop fill that in, so no big deal.
I'm a little (OK, a LOT) surprised to hear that the finish was not good though. The finish on mine was really outstanding. It was almost like there was already a layer of gelcoat on there or something, it was so smooth.
Anyway, don't worry - when you get it all finished, its going to look great

You're right, that would be another option. You can see it in this thread (post #142)

I believe Z1 Auto sells it.

My shine central 20 replica rear also came similar to that.

I forgot exactly what I did, but I fabbed up some plate mounting bracket from the stock bumper.

Japanese license plates are amounted along with a strange frame I believe... That's why all the genuine JDM rear bodykits have this hole. Also, if I remember correctly, you also need to drill an inch diameter hole in the front bumper in order to mount Japanese license plate.

Well thanks maybe it was for the carbon fiber option. I'll just fill it in like I thought.

As for the finish, this kit is bad. Casting marks on every part in multiple areas and pot marks in other areas. I'll have to sand the casting marks off and then bondo in the pot marks. Plus there is a few areas were the fiber glass was so week I'll have to glass them in and reinforce what is there...or what I already broke off. I'm not happy, the service I got when I ordered the kit was horrible which I should have backed out many times because of, but I really wanted this kit. And then it comes to me in this kind of shape. I can fix it but man for $2000+ I shouldn't have to recreate it. Returning it is not an option, it took 4 months to get it, it's not worth the red tape.

I'll make it work and I'll be happy...no thanks to Chargespeed or the sales company.
Thanks for your help guys.

imho when dealing with anything FRP, there will always be variations due to the human making each piece. small cracks isnt too bad- but huge variations / warpage you can't really fix or is a big pita.

as long as the curves line up to your oem body pieces? then i think its worth it-

Dude, get over it.. FRP parts always need work... Even super duper expensive Benz's Lorinser and Brabus bodykits don't quite fit nicely, have pin holes and wrinkly surfaces...

Guys .. the hole is actually meant for JDM's licence plate holder to go thru. JDM spec have this metal bracket thingy which is tied on the metal body. I've added some lines on the 1st pic and attached a JDM picture to give you guys a better idea of whats it like.

cheers..

Thanks man. Glad to know there was a purpose to this cut out. But I already filled mine in. It looks pretty good. As for the rest of the flaws on the kit they are all patching up pretty easy, so i'm feeling much better about it all. I should be finshed in time for my scheduled painting date. July 28th.

I bought one of the first ChargeSpeed bumpers; The only thing that could be is the cutout for a Japanese license plate. I bought a C/F license plate cover from "The Z Store" to cover it.
