Default Cracked Windshield and Insurance question

I was driving home last night, and I managed to get a crack in my windshield due to a semi in front...

Got a question... Do I have to pay a deductible for this? Will insurance cover it even? My car is already going into the body shop for paint (keyed driver door), so is there a way that I can get both of these taken care of with one deductible payment?

I think insurance should replace it since it's a safety hazard if left untreated.

depends on who you got. with mine the deductible was over $200 higher than what it cost to fix the windshield, so i just ate the price of it.

some insurance companies will go for a repair if it's less than 12" in length and a replacement if it's larger.

if you already know your specific deductible for auto glass (which is sometimes different from your overall deductible for car repairs), you may want to call an independent auto glass repair shop for a quote. I've heard of some insurance companies raising your rate if you even ask about whether you should file a claim for something or pay out of pocket, so you may want to do the research yourself before involving the insurance co.

depends on your coverage. A new windshield is $200-$250 installed though, so I wouldn't sweat it.

This should be covered if you have a comprehensive or auto glass policy. Your deductible for glass is usually less then your collision deductible so make sure to ask what it is. Be sure to tell the claims adjuster that the rock flew up from the semi in front of you, not off the pavement. This will make sure it is treated as a comprehensive/glass claim. I was an insurance adjuster for a year out of college.....worst year of my life.

It depends on how cool the body shop is. It's all paperwork.

Call your insurance and let them know, I know that in the state of Florida windshields are free with no deductible. Do some research and call around.

I've had 2 done in my bimmer, then 3 in my Z, and after 2 weeks of having the X4, I allready had one replaced. My luck with cars = fail.

Thanks guys!

I have State Farm.

I'm hoping they'd just replace the windshield for no cost due to being a safety hazard. I already have most of my money going out, so any free things I can get I will be more than thankful for

I just want to stick with OEM Nissan glass for the windshield. Good idea?
