If you're considering 6000K here's a pic....
The purple color you see is because of the projector lens they use, not the bulb itself. If you were to replace your projector lens for the one that the Ferrari/Lotus uses, and it would look the same. (You can actually replace the lens, I believe cincity designs replaces it with the one found in the STi, it gives the purple cut-off line)
4300k will give you the brightest output and whitest color. Anything above and you start sacrificing functionality for looks.
5000k will be a little bluer than 4300k, 6000k bluer than 5000k, and so on.
I don't recommend anything about 6000k, because anything above that and light output is decreased tremendously.
6000k is a good compromise between light output/color.
You might not notice much difference when you are driving at night if you are driving down well-lit roads, but when it starts raining and there are no street lights, you will be able to tell the difference.
Simple explination: 4300k is the purist white projected. Moving to a higher K makes the light more blue or purple, thus projecting a "darker" light, this is why many say thier visibility diminishes when they do the upgrade. I believe CinCity's Sti projector upgrade is the only one worth doing for increasing light output, if I'm wrong feel free to correct..

U R Correct Sir! I Think you see more purple on the exotics maybe cuz the projector has a sharper cut off line?therfore appearing purple from far then white when real close?
yes, replacing the stock 06-08 fresnel lens with the STi clear lens increases light output because the stock fresnel lens is kinda blurry, as you can tell when you look at the headlights (milky looking). The STi lens also gives a sharper and more dramatic cutoff. I've been wanting to do that swap for a long while now... should've done it when I blacked out my housings. If you upgrade the lens, you get +nth output, moving to a higher temp -nth output.. so its really up to the owner. Personally, if I upgraded to the STi lens, i would keep the OEM bulbs because I would already have that bmw look already, while having the BEST output possible.
