Default 6000k bulbs?

Who has changed to 6000k bulbs here?

I'm leaning towards a change, but can't decide on the compromise between color temperature and brightness. Right now I'm thinking about getting the 6000k bulbs from goHID.com.

For those who have made the change, did you notice a decrease in illumination? Any suggestions anyone?

If your going 6000k you might consider Piaa's bulbs, they are 6600k, they're a little pricey but they have a 3 year warranty.

Anything beyond 4300K starts to lose its usefulness.

I switched out my ugly oem HID's for D2r 6000k headlights (3500 lumens). I didn't notice any real loss, even in the rain.

People on here make it seem like its the worst thing you can do, but I made an informed choice and am very pleased with it.

True the higher kelvin rating you go the lower the output, but also dont disregard the lumen rating of the bulb.

Again, not looking for the "omg oem is the best blah blah b.s." THe oem hid's are ugly, and from an aesthetical and performance standpoint the 6000k (good quality ones) are a nice compromise.

Here are my Mcculloch 6000k on my 2004 Base. Stock bulbs non-HID versus 6000k HID. IMO the aftermarket bulbs look way better than the ones that come from the factory.

I have the Brightstar 6500K's and they are much better than the stock crapola's that came with my base....

p.s. brightstar was lifted off the shelves after the NHTA banned them for some glare issue... i actually managed to get the last kit b4 they were gone... ur next best option is phillips or PIAA

Thanks for all the input. My favorite OEM HID's are Audi's. Anyone know what color temperature they have? I'd like to shoot for that range.

I do realize that I will take a hit in the illumination department if I do this, but I was wondering if there was anyone here who actually changed to 6000k and then regreted it?

If so, why and how bad was it?

THe nice color that you guys notice is the cutoff from the projectors from those auto companies. I really like the TSX and Q45 projectors personally.

Good luck guys, for me the 6000k was one of my favorite mods hahah.

Could you expand a little on that please?

Does this "cutoff" effect the color when viewed from straight-on? That is the color I like the most, but it does seem a little dimmer.

That's what makes this such a tough decision.

Thanks to everyone for their help and input.

The purple/blue color flicker is a direct result from the projector. You can really see it from really far away, or from a direct straight-on view. Most of the flicker is caused by the car bouncing up and down from its suspension. The only way to really get that color flicker of Audi/BMW/Acura is to retrofit a projector. TSX and TL projectors are known for their amazing color, cutoff sharpness, and overall crazy output. Higher kelvin bulbs will NEVER give you this look and you are actually reducing your output. This is true... i'm always jealous of my brother's TL when he's driving behind me and his lights give off the nicest colours. I wouldn't mind even just changing my bulb to a 6000k to get a bit nicer overall colour though.

GQ 350z... which bulbs did you go with if you don't mind my asking?

I've never noticed this flicker of which you speak, but I was just referring to the color of the light when viewed head-on. I don't care about halo's, or color shifting, or any of that. I just like the Audi's color of headlight the best when I see them head-on.

When I drive the Audi the lights seem to be perfectly adequate (no worse than the Z's), so I was thinking maybe there was a way I could get closer to that.

Thanks again for your input and thanks for the link. I will join that site just so I can study-up on this issue.
