Default Problems with '06 Plastic cover on headlights getting severely scratched or cracking?

Has anyone ran into any problems with their headlights cracking or anything? I noticed a million tiny scratches or even cracks in the plastic of both headlights. The cover is badly damaged and I'm not sure if I will have to replace the whole light or what. I would post pics, but I just noticed this and I'm at school and don't have any way of doing so. I'll update with them later.
Anyway, I'm not sure if the light is defective, or if someone physically scratched the lights.
Also, it could have even been caused by the tent overlay I had on them for a few months. The overlay got tattered by the wind and when I peeled it off, that's when I saw the scratches or cracks..whatever they are. I'm just not sure how the overlay could have caused it because it's just a cling you lay on the lights and smooth out.
Does anyone have any input on this or know of a possible cause?
I'm not excited to replace these lights...

I was going to start a thread about the headlights but since there is so many threads floating around on it already I will just use this one.

I have an '06 as well and noticed the other day that the tops of both headlights looked hazy, no scratches, drivers side a little worse than passenger side. determined it was from age and being parked outside the first 2 years all year long.

I picked up some plastx and that should take care of my small problem.

I would figure that the overlay would protect the lights. I dunno man I have the same problem but mine are 03-05 headlight style so replacing them isnt going to be an arm and a leg.

Anyway, dude use some scratch X by Maguires <---Spell Check. and it will work for the most part. But thats only a quick fix, you could only use it so many times before it wont work anymore.

YOU can do the 3M clear bra on the headlights, I paid about $90.00 for mine, they still look damn sweet. Overlays from what I have read are the cause of some of the headlight cracking.

Overlays stress the lens. This leads to lens cracking.
