Since when is a tow hook for looks?

a tow hook belongs in the trunk until you need it and then only when on a track or something similar....a tow hook for looks=fail.

this is coming from the guy who modded his stock antenna b/c he wanted to save 11 bucks.

 

The hook is pretty beefy, and extremely light as well..as are the bolts that come w/ it. - not like it matters or anything but it is functional. And it does pull the weight of the car. I went this route cause the bumper I initially chose is too long and sits too flush w/ the original toe hole. the oem hook will not screw in to the stock location w/o seriously scratching the bumper. My only other option other than this was the bull nose ring which I was not a fan of. The bracket sides that were cut are about 3.5 inches long on each side and beveled at a 45 degree angle at the weld points to insure a good connecting surface. These bolt to the last two holes of the hook.The end of the brackets sits flush w/ the front edge of the bumper support.

 

I love how you know that this tow hook will bend or break just by looking at a picture of it on the internet, while you apparently have zero knowledge of its composition. Did you figure it to be aluminum, or are you just hating based on the fact that you think a tow hook installed on a non track-dedicated car is stupid?

I agree the OEM hook is probably a bunch stronger, but that is hardly relevant, and the OP has posted a good reason for using this hook.

IMO it does look like it could bend after several pulls.

 

I have seen ones similar to this on Honda's and other cars and they have BROKEN off and actually caused damage to the car itself and possibly the other car too when it broke the line snaps back and hits the tow vehicle.

Been to enough races and have seen this happen. Reason why the stock one stays.

The design itself has nothing to help prevent it from BENDING. It has no extra ridges, etc. It is just a flat, square piece of metal/titanium with no extra beef to prevent it from bending one way or another. Circular / Tube shapes will always be stronger. Reason why roll cages are made this way.

He can have it for looks, just don't trust it to pull the car out of a situation.

 

I like it, Did you get it from bullet proof? With my APS 5" Intercooler my factory brace is gone ( we cut out the middle section but left the sides) I am thinking about doing the same thing. PM me a link on where to get the hook if you don't mind and how much they charged you for install.

except that one is not long enough for where he wants to mount it (I know, because I have had one sitting here for about 2.5 years now) and it won't even clear a stock bumper

 

My stock one doesn't clear the V3 Nismo bumper, but I can still hook on to it.

 

Looks like I can use that as a snow shoe.....



..j/k - Seriously though - I hope it performs well, and I'm not saying its indestructible just a personal taste thing in that i like to customize things and make them slightly unique and functional at the same time which I think the reason I own the Z in the 1st place.

 

For a tow hook I think it looks good!

 

tow hook's gotta stay on 'long enough for 1 pull' off the track..

reguardless of angle imho.. so if it holds but bends, it's served its purpose.. besides.. with a car that is lower with front lips and side skirts... tow hook slightly bending will be the least of the worries...

 

looks good but i would get rid of the part where the original tow hook goes in the center

That piece looks amazing bro. Don't mind the haters. If you feel the toe hook has form and function, thats all it matters.

 

why not fabricate a bracket to lower the tow hook attachment point? brings out the attachment point by an 1" and lowers it enough to clear most, if not all, aftermarket bumpers

 

Looks sweet man. I really don't understand why people are flaming. Half the crap people do to THEIR cars is just for looks. Wether or not it is functional or not is moot in my book! Nice work man!
