I upgraded from the same lights you have to 06 headlights with the STI clear lens mod that CinCity offers and its 10x brighter, highly recommended.

1,500 - 2,000 to see better at night???? If it bothers you that much and you sleep on piles of cash I also recomend but you can get some improvment buy just buying better aftermarket HID bulbs.

You could also upgrade to a 55W ballast for more output. But i still think the headlight design is the weakest link. I cant stand them.

or make sure they are aimed correctly. often they are too low making it hard to see past the defined cutoff.

^^ STI mod will make them look better than bluer bulbs

but to answer your question:

6000k is a good white-blue color.
8000k is very blue.

If you raise the kelvins in your bulbs, you'll get a bluish hue... but you shorten the viewable distance... optimal is 4300k - 5000k for maximized light and distance.

I thought about raising the watts.. from 35w to 55w.. but I found out that in some states it's illegal. So i'd find out about the laws regarding raising watts on the HIDs, unless you don't mind being pull-over.

I'm just speaking from perspective of a driver in California... I know it's different in other states.. IMO.. I would just change the bulbs to stock kelvin with the Phillips brand or if you want... PIAA makes D2R bulbs as well, but I'm not sure if they sold 4300k bulbs or was it higher.. possibly 6000k..

new aftermarket bulbs will most likely make the problem WORSE, not better. Your best option is upgrading to 06+ lights, or getting a new set of philips 85126+ d2r bulbs, which can be found on ebay for ~$50. A new set to replace yours which are a couple years old will likely give you back 3-400 lumens.

There are a few things you can do.

Check your beam pattern, you might need to readjust them to aim higher they might be a little too low.

Retrofrit real HID projectors (E55, TL/TSX, S2K, LS430 projectors) into the current housing.

Upgrade to 06+ head lights.

Like the other states, nothing will really beat the cutoff/shine of the oem 4300-5300k output. You might think those aftermarket kits are bright as hell because you have them aimed to the sky and blinding everybody on the road.

All great suggestions, just make sure they are aimed right. If so, then you may want to do the upgrade to 55watt. I highly recommend not going above 6k on the bulb kelvin.

it is 55w ballasts you would need to run the 55w bulbs. the 55w bulb in a 35w system probably would not work. BTW, how clear is your outer housing? that make s a difference in the amount of light that gets out as well. i have seen some 2003's with very dull looking headlight covers.
