Default '06 HID Problem - Please Help!!!

Hey guys,
I have a ’03 Touring which I updated with the new ’06 headlights. The problem is that the light output is bad (stock bulbs were not changed). I thought it might have been due to the HID ballast it came with, so I swapped it with my original; no difference. I compared it to the output to that of many local car club members and there is a considerable loss of power in mine. Anybody have an idea as to what might be wrong? Is this electrical, bad ballast or something else?
I’m considering buying a quality aftermarket hid kit (if there is such a thing)…

-Thanks,
K. Harbie

I suspect you need some new lights. I believe you said you did not change the stock light bulbs. The 2003 has D2R lights and the 2006 headlights require D2S capsules. That might be the root of your problem.

The fact is that I currently have the wiring and sockets from my '03 in the new '06 housing. So, will the D2S bulb fit into my D2R socket and not negatively affect the light output?

-thanks

Good question. I really don't know the answer to that one. You need the new bulbs D2S bulbs anyway so why not just stick them in and see how the light output is? If I understand it correctly, the D2R is a reflector type bulb and the D2S is for a true projector lens. The 2006 lights are true projectors while the 2003 are not.
