Question 350z: Factory Alarm activation?

I was considering to buy a 2 Pager alarm system for my car but I think the factory alarm would do just fine. Thing is, it seems to be deactivated. When I lock it, I use the key to open the door and the alarm does not go off unless I press the Alarm button in the remote for a few seconds. Is it deactivated or it's just like that?

uhh....if you use your key to open the door, why should the alarm go off?

try this...it should set your alarm off:
1. Open your windows.
2. Get out of your car
3. Lock your doors using the remote
4. unlock the driver door by pushing the the actual lock (on the inside of the door)
5. open the door
6. enjoy the loudness of your horn
7......can't remember how to turn the alarm off tho...

That didn't work. It's probably deactivated or it only goes off under extreme circumstances such as a big impact. I guess I'm better off getting a Viper alarm anyway.

I think you once you lock it you have to wait like 1 minute or 30 seconds before it activates. Im not sure tho

how long did you wait before you opened the door after you locked it? Give it a few minutes. Also, if you hold down the lock and unlock buttons at once, after a few seconds the horn will honk, and from then on you will have audible confirmation when you arm the alarm.

Waiting doesn't really do anything. I have tried all sorts of things..even pushing the car around. It only horns when I lock it but that's all. I might ask its previews owner if he deactivated it by any chance.

Tried again and it worked. Gotta wait 30 seconds after locking it (there's a red light blinking by the windshield-depending on year) when alarm system activates. Using the key to open the car however doesn't set it off. Gotta unlock it from the inside and open the door like the first answerer suggested, he just didn't tell me to wait. It's all on the 350z manual. I'm just lazy.

Thanks everyone for helping me on this one.

Get a Viper, the OEM one does not let you know when your getting jacked.

anyone here ever heard of an alarm system hooked up to a cellphone? the alarm unit has a built in sim card slot and pre programmed features from just sending text message from your phone. you can even check car location via google map. cool features, any of you guys interested on that?
