Default Rustoleum paint sucks!!!

so i set aside the whole day to black out my headlights...started at 2PM and ended at 2AM THE NEXT DAY (12 EFFING HOURS)!!! i was pissed...the only paint they had at home depot and lowes was this brand called "rustoleum". I bought the primer and the paint that was for plastics and thought everything would be fine and dandy. Primer went on well...then i sprayed the color...it started cracking like crazy right before my eyes! i thought it was the colored paint that made it do this so i went to home depot again to buy a different brand, and it cracked even more! i had to use paint thinner to literally strip off ALL the paint and primer that had been put on, and i had to do about 10 coats of some other brand of paint (with no primer). In the end, everything turned out great, but i wanted to let anyone else that is going to black house their headlights know that RUSTOLEUM PAINT SUCKS!!! that was my rant for the night...the end...

They make a special paint for this particular purpose. Blacking out your lights, first with primer, then with paint, would cause light to not be transferred through the lens and therefore make your car non DOT approved, would result in a ticket and then you wouldn't be able to drive at night.

Also, at home depot, where they sell windows, they sell rolls of tint, in varying colors and darkness that work great for tinting head/tail lights.

your problem is not because of the brand of paint, i believe when you mix different paints you get that cracking effect...

Sorry it wasn't directly clear. Sounded to me like he was tinting lenses and blacking them out which is what rice fiends do.
