Rear Bumper Protection
I am considering putting something on my rear bumper to protect it from individuals who have parking disabilities!! I really don't want to do this becuase I think it will look terrible and take away from the sweet look of my Z. However, I am reaching a point where I am concerned more about body damage and I'm willing to sacrafice a little. My rear bumper is getting nicked and bumped into when it is parked (screw imprints from license plates of the vehicle bumping me from behind). Why someone would even bump into a car like the Z is beyond me! Total disrespect for beauty and perfection if you ask me!
Do any of you guys have any suggestions? I was considering having something custom made similar to the rear bumpers you would find on the rear bumpers of many porsches (something similar to what you would find on the old 944s maybe). I would also consider installing some type of thin plastic molding. It has to look natural, as if it were part of the body. I have a black Z so I think think whatever I put on may actually look okay. Again, my concern is perserving the look. I am looking to sacrafice very very little.
I appreciate any help or suggestions you guys may have to offer.

I had the same thing happen to my Chrome SIlver Z. I now have two screw imprints from where someone backed into me. In fact, I now have two dents that are not exactly visible, but if you run your hand over the bumper, you can definitely feel them. I've thought abou taking it to a body shop to get an estimate, but I'm sure it will just happen again. I wasn't a fan of the options you posted on the site, b/c those only seem to protect the corners and they would stand out too much. If you figure anything out though, please let me know.
That's one reason I don't mind having my front license plate on the bumper of my Touring Z. It will protect in cases where a car backs straight into the front of my car. But I do worry about the rear bumper. I try to avoid spaces where there's a car in front and behind me.
I had my car for 2 weeks and some lame *** tried to squeeze into the space behind me and scraped my corner bumper. Left a big imprint on my White Z.. Boy was I mad. Anyways, last week a truck rear ended me so I get to have the whole bumper replaced and painted and now adding a Stillen spoiler.

I have the same thing that you described...welts, screw imprints, etc...not noticeable unless ur looking at it for a while. but being **** as i am, i notice evry little change (whether it be a noise, a new scratch, etc.). I know scratches are going to happen and I can live with it. But the bumper damage is unacceptable. The links i posted are not only for application on the corner of the bumpers. The moldings can be applied to the center of the bumper. The reason I came up with this idea is because i saw a black Nissan (I think one of those new Altimas) with molding strip centered on the rear bumper. Surprisingly, it didn't look bad at all. It looked as if it was a natural part of the vehicle. That is the whole reason I came up with the idea of considering putting one on. I was actually hoping you guys would be able to provide me with other web links so I can consider the available options. If I go through with this it has to look as natural as possible.

I have this exact same problem. Some dumbass put two scratches through the clearcoat and a small dent in my rear bumper. I took it to 3 different body shops for estimates today, and the total price w/ tax was from $550-670 depending on the shop.
I haven't decided if it's worth fixing for that much... it seems like I could put the money to better use on the car.

It is extremely frustrating, especially when I try and take such good care of the car. I'm actually hoping someone will rear-end me so I can get a whole new bumper. In the meantime, I'm going to continue to search for some type of rear bumper protectant, but if someone else comes up with something, please let us know. As for the estimate to get it fixed, it is tempting, but I wouldn't do it unless I could put on some protectant immediately after.
