Default bought a CF hood (yeh im the guinea pig)..need help though

i know for a fact that there were some skeptical ppl that wanted the unbeatable ebay price but were too scared

welll..i took matters into my own hands and drove down to genesis performance and took a look at the hood

YES--it is cf over frp (we know this already)

so please dont post about weight and wat not

the undersupport is very nice looking the CF looks real nice

i dont know about fitment yet (one of the workers is driving it to my house tom)...but from other ebay members(non-z owners though) they said fitment is very good

ITS almost impossible to find 11mm bolts for this hood (which you need)

its the same size as the stock bolts but those bolts are welded on

hopefully they found some for me

...my question is ..

do you think i need hood pins/?

im assuming its just as heavy as the oem hood and it bolts on exactly like the oem

one guy at genesis said that if i take my car in the 100mph + range (which i do,,,responsibly )..then i would need

another guy said i wouldnt

i know its better to be safe...but i cant imagine why it would be any diff than the stock hood (assuming equal wieght)

help

I used to have a CF hood on my old car, it was from Kaminari. The fitment was hard since you need two people, and you gotta constantly do trial and error, ie, put on all the bolts, do not tighten it, then close the hood to see if it fits.
You will not need a Hood pin if your stock hinge works on the CF like the Stock hood, ie. if you can close the CF hood with yoru stock hinge like how you close a stock hood, then you are fine.
some hoods are not perfect fit, thus you might need to adjust the stock hinge lower or higher, sometimes even remove it completely. Only if you move it completely, you will need a Hood pin.
My old CF hood was fine with the stock hinge, but i had to adjust the stock hinge down lower, because first attempt of closing the hood, the hood was higher off when it is shut. So I had to move the hinge lower for the hood to go lower.

Hope it helps.

I know its overlay and all, but as long as you have it, and off the car, any chance you could toss it on a scale for us?

and maybe then toss your stock one on the scale as well when its off?

itd be interesting atleast.

always always go with a hood pin/latch system.

i have seen some horrific separations from the hood and latch on a few of my friend's cars while driving on the free way.... it would launch straight up and shatter the front windsheild- good thing he wasnt in traffic or anything like that...

thats why i will always go with hood pins, even tho it does look nasty.. its worth the comfort level..

if it was a true carbon hood, you wouldnt need the FRP undercarriage--
carbon is strong enough when properly cured to get its own support...
