Default Air Duct vs Rain?

guys with air ducts, how do you deal with rainy days? i think same goes to sand storms.

i know that it could harm the filter (short ram).

share your experience.

thnx

I only experienced a little bit of dust in the engine bay, but not too much!

a short ram is not a CAI. and you got nothing to worry about unless you put the car into a lake, then you got worse problem to worry about

everyone that has one says it's never been an issue.

I would like one, but not at the risk of hydrolocking my engine. rains a lot here (near seattle), I've hit some deeper puddles then expected.

better safe then sorry - it looks good and it would provide slightly cooler air, but it's not a big enough deal for me to want to go through with it.

like i hinted at unless you submerge the entire fornt of your car in water, park it, then rev the engine you will not hydrolock it with a intake duct, nor will you do it using a short ram intake or a CAI intake. i have been caught in some pretty hard rain storms and never had any issues with my JWT/titek duct at all.

I agree! I dont think it is much of a big deal. But to be even safer and more protected of rain, water sprays from the front cars et I even use this for my Injen CAI. It is a nice extra protection.

Yeah I have that hydroshield for my injen cai and seems to work fine, no problems so far, but would like some extra protection, like a piece of plastic rigjt on front of the filter or one of these heat shields, also sold by injen.

Shouldn't be a problem unless you're going to take your car for a dip in a lake or something... Just like any cars with SRI water gets in the engine bay when it rains and everyone is fine. Almost dust, sand, and all sorts gets in there no matter what. That's why you clean your filter at certain mileage =]

everyone seems to say unless you submerge it .. you can go through a puddle that splashes water up through the duct at the perfect angle and ..

ahh, I am just too precautious.. too many horror stories

I know this is an old thread but, i'll throw in my 2 cents. You will probably have to be more proactive in keeping your filter clean. Dirty filter(s) equal dirtier MAF(s). A dirty MAF will mess with the tuning and you are not going to be able to just wipe it off with a rag and be good. The more exposed the filter is the dirtier it will be. Additionally, if you are using a oil filter (K&N) don't use too much oil after cleaning or that too can mess with the MAF.

If the filter gets completely soaked through during a storm the engine will suck some water in. You wont get hydrolocked but the water passing the MAF could confuse it. In a heavy down pour its better to park and wait it out. If you're not driving in a monsoon or hurricane, you'll be ok.

Just keep that filter clean!
