Sorry... there is a misunderstaning there... There is no black bumpers from Nismo.... you just need to buy "something" from your local hardware house.... well...... okay.. I should say that "something" as black rubber pads (around 3 - 4 mm in its thickness) or any pad that you can stick right under the legs of the chairs to prevent the floor damages by moving the chair without lifting it up.. get it now?
You just simply stick those pads right at where those black bumpers (black springs on the hatch that actually push the hatch up) touches the car.... it will allow greater compression on the black bumpers on the hatch and when you want to open the hatch, those springs will have greater forces to push the hatch up! As easy as that!

Good Call Rich!
I tried it and it works nicely. Now when I hit the button the hatch disengages all the way so I don't need two hands anymore.
Here are the black bumper things he was referring to:

Ok, that's all well and good that you can pop the hatch in one pop now, but what about the hatch staying up when you raise it? Does taking out the weight you marked FULLY solve that problem? Thanks, Mike
Exactly what do you mean by "staying up"? It depends on what angle the hatch is at as to if it stays up.
If I have it all the way up (like in my pictures) it stays up. If it is anything less than say, a 45 degree angle, it will close but I would think that it does this even without the NISMO wing.

Mine even when fully up, will eventually slam shut even if, on occasion, I get it to stay still for a minute. Some days, I can't get it to even stay up for a split second. I guess my question is, before I go ripping the hatch apart to remove this weight, is it going to make a significant difference? Thanks,

The counter weight adds weight to the edge of the hatch to make it easier to close the hatch. This weight was designed to balance things for a hatch with no spoiler or at most the small factory spoiler. The larger wings are heavier so the counter weight is not needed because the combination of the larger wing and the counter weight is just too much for the "stays" to hold up. Removal of the counter weight will give you a fighting chance of having your hatch stay up when you want it too provided you are on level or "nose down" surfaces. Taking the plastic panel off to get to the weight is not overly tough. Just be careful with any clips you encounter. Lift the center of the clip out and the legs compress allowing for easy removal.
Dr Bonz:
Good works.... but you put those furniture pads at different location to mine... I actually stick those pads on the body panel instead! But either way, they all work perfect!!!

Yeah, after I did it I thought that I could have done it the other way. Oh well, whatever works.
Mike. Mine stays up all by itself at any angle greater than about 45 degrees. I have to conclude therefore, that the weight (or the lack of it) is the answer here.

IF you're going to replace the strut, do it sooner than later. My trunk would not stay open unless i held it up by hand or with an umbrella. I'm thinking the stock trunk struts could not handle the added weight of the actual wing.
Well, thats what we are saying about removing the counter balance weight. Maybe if you do that, you won't need to replace the hydraulic lifts on the hatch. Unless there is something wrong with them in the first place of course.
The weight is very easy to remove. The rear lid panel simply pops off. Just pick a place and start pulling. It's not an easy thing to break, and even if you somehow break one or two of the pins, they're easily replaced.
