Default Rear tow hook

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to mount a rear tow hook? I heard that there is a structural member right behind the rear bumper cap. If an access hole is cut through the bumper cap right behind the license plate, I am told, a threaded recepticle can be welded to the member and a tow hook then can be screwed in just as in the front.

Anyone have any thoughts on that or on any other way to mount a rear tow hook?

Thanks for the tip, Jason. Since posting my original message, I discovered that hook. But, it's not actually a tow hook. It's used to tie the car down for transport. It will bend if a significant side load is put on it, although it is stout enough to use when pulling the car straight back. That's what I'm told, anyway.

I think so. My shop has a scrap 350 front bumper and they'll salvage the threaded fitting for the front hook. Then they'll weld it to the rear bumper structure and, once I get a long tow hook, I'll thread it in when I need it just like on the front. It's not quite that simple, but that's the gist of it. Also, because the OE front tow hook isn't long enough to use with this arrangement, I'll need to buy or have fabricated a long and very stout one.

This is a somewhat different solution than I asked about in my initial post. With what I describe, above, the tow hook will mount below the bumper cap.

i attached a Turner Racing rear tow strap (originally for BMW) to the oem crash beam (i.e. cut slots for it, and inserted metal rod such that the strap wont fall out) and cut through the oem bumper and shoved the loop end out, this mounts just slightly above my rear diffuser and is tucked away...

this would be used as a emergency use only on a track and not as a tow strap down...

i'll post some picts when i get home but most rear tow hooks are a custom job...

I have seen that G35 oem tow hooks are longer than the oem front 350z one? how long does it need to be to clear?
