Rear Wiper Removal

Rear Wiper Removal
Im planning on getting rid of my wiper and plugging it. However, why do people go under the hatch and take out the black plastic cover and take out the motor? Is that required? Couldn't I just take the wiper off and plug it? Why is the black plastic/motor removal part necessary besides trying to save a few pounds at the most?

Taking the wiper off will still leave the motor shaft sticking through your hatch. You have to take the motor out in order to have an open hole in which to put the plug. I don't think the weight saving is significant and if it were as simple as you think, everyone would do it that way.

Trust us... we work for the.. nevermind.
You have to take it all out for it to be plugged. When you do it, you'll understand.
Good luck! It's one of the simple mods I've never regretted.

I used a stainless plug for an electrical box where the conduit (sp?) goes in. It's just a cap that plugs the hole. Perfect size, doesn't rust, and fits flush. I just used pure silicone on it from the back side. No leacks and it's been on for about a year.
