I tried this myself on the window switches panels on the door. It was really hard to get it to look clean around the curvy areas where the buttons are. I gave up after my first try, have to find the time to try again. Now I think I need something to help clean up the residue that was there from the first time.
I know what you mean. I ended up cutting up a pop can and using three strips cut from it to slide the hvac controls in and keep the fabric tucked behind.
