Do you know if he took off the pillars? Those pillars are a pain to take off. the prep work would be still hard since you would also need to Mask off the Entire car. The Cost in Materials would be closer to what Peter said, about $40-50 bucks.

You got a really good deal for a guy who only charged $50-60 dollars for labor. If only the OP could find a guy like that.

Many body shops typically charge anywhere from $30-40 an hour. This job for a competent painter would be about 2 hours prep (including masking off the car) .5 to shoot base and clear coats. 1 hour to color sand and polish for a smooth finish, .5 to put the pillars and clean up the car.

to do it right, the pillars should come off, the front molding rolled, if not replaced, and possibly removing the rear hatch. I pulled the rear hatch when mine was painted because I had the paint line brought down to the stripping.

^exactly... it needs to be done but thats why I'm wondering why it was only $100 bucks for him to get it painted.

it all comes down to quality. body/paint work can vary so much that comparing quotes is almost useless without seeing the final work. My guess is that he got a $100 paint job
