Default Help!! Gauge cluster, 3 dash gauges, mirror dead

Im in my car. It's running, radio on, a/c on. I look down and notice my revs are at 0. Cluster is out and my 3 dash quages are out. It also appears the mirror is out.

I was stripping back the red/black and ground wire to the homelink mirror to install radar detecter. Im fairly certain that the exposed wires did not touch. But none the less, do you know what fuse could be blown, etc,,. I'm supposed to be leaving in like 30 min! help.

P.S. I did this install on my last Z with no problems ??

Check the fuse box under the hood, near the battery. Possibly blown fuse

It drove fine to my friends house. When I stop and restart the car it sounds weak trying to start like the battery is dying. It'll start to drive, then has no power. Pedal to the floor and starts ok and then just sluggs along. Wait a minute, and it'll be fine for a sec and then does it again?

Car starts fine after sitting for a while. Drives perfect and then after about a minute its goes into a sort of limp mode where it has absolutely no power. Revs fine and sounds normal when out of gear, but when you put it in gear it won't rev and has zero power....?

started car up to put it in friends driveway. It was sluggish only a few seconds after putting it into 1st gear. When in driveway I was showing him a short clip on dvd player (headunit)...checked a/c and it didn't work. Orange button the dials just started blinking slowly.. After sitting there for about 4-5 minutes the headunits turned off,car kind of sputtered for a sec or two and then died. Tried to restart and it just clicked and clicked like battery was dead or something.it wouldn't start back up. Dome lights worked and the red security light on dash is blinking.......please help with any input I'm stuck at my friends house for now.

I dunno much about car electrical but it sounds like something is shorted somewhere. I would retrace steps involved with putting in the radar detector. I would actually take it out and double check for nicked wires that could be touching, etc. Unless you haev good light, would be better to give close inspection during day time.

I had a problem similar to that on my Honda Prelude. I think it was something with the ECU or alternator.

well, car is completely dead now and only gives me a click-click-click from the starter when I try to start her up. I had it towed from my buddies house and just got home. Stopped by autozone to run a scan on it and it said no codes reported.

Input i've received said it sounds like alternator, but what would make the dash lights/gauges go out initially and the car still run fine with a/c and radio on?

Im going to go try and jump the Z with my work truck and then pull the neg. battery cable to see if its the alternator. If its a bad alternator, will the car die immediately or how long can it run?

any more input is APPRECIATED

Clicking noise = DEAD BATTERY. Jumping the car will only work once - you need a new battery.

I jumped the car and it started up fine. A/C ran and radio worked. *Dash gauges are still not working nor is as the mirror*....When I disconnected the negative cable on battery, It died instantly. I was told that is the alternator. Is this true?

Battery or alternator?

Also,...why in the world is the gauge cluster/dash gauges / and mirror out? If I accidentally touched the two mirror wires together with the wire stripper, could this have caused the dash and mirror to go out? If so, can anyone telly me the fuse or relay,etc.. I've checked the fuses under the dash and the fuses right by the battery and they all look good.

Additionally, if those two wired were touched accidentallly, could that be a reason to kill the alternator?

Thank you for the input!

Rob

if you have an Auto Zone around your area, you can take your car right there and they'll hook stuff up to it to tell you if you have a bad battery or alternator

i brought my 350z to one a couple weeks ago, the machine said bad battery, I bought a new one, everythings been fine since

also i think most cars now adays if you unhook the battery while running they won't stay running
