I don't know... I got first place in my time attack class. Right now, keeping my water temp manageable, so I can put in several attack runs without worrying about melting my engine, seem to be more important than being aerodynamic.

I do agree with you about the effective air management. You can't see it, but my mechanic and I sealed up all the cracks and gaps between the radiator and the fan housing with sponges and duck tapes. Also made shrouds so the air can't go anywhere but through the intercooler and the radiator. When my factory fans turn on at 95C, it used to drop the temp down to 90~91C during idle. But, now it drops it down to 87C.

I had the same thought! HAHAH~ But, this "ugly" bumper is staying and will be repaired to be used as my time attack/drift purpose bumper. I still have my Shine Amuse bumper. It's at the body shop getting repaired. Low bumpers get Fed up here in Korea...

did you do anything different with the cooling besides the front bumper?
did you re-bleed the water system ?

how were the ambient temperatures like before and your latest race?

thanks

i will be testing a new radiator design from a different company within the next couple of weeks.. i'll let you know how that works. its a cross-flow design...

sweeet! That sounds good, then you won't have to ruin your nice Amuse bumper and you'll also get the cooling you need for races win win!

i will be testing a new radiator design from a different company within the next couple of weeks.. i'll let you know how that works. its a cross-flow design...

I put shrouds around the area marked in red in the pic, so the air entering the openings cannot escape to the sides nor to the bottom. Also my mechanic blocked off all the gaps between the intercooler and the radiator, and between the radiator and the fan shrouds with sponges and duck tapes. Lastly, I relocated horns in the blue retangle in the pic out of the way so that radiator is directly exposed to the air as much as possible. I estimate that about 70% of the air entering through the top opening (blue) hits the radiator directly. I didn't bleed the radiator, fans are stock and I still I have the same radiator.

Ambient temp was a tad bit lower than my last race. But, I'm very confident that lower ambient temp was not the only reason I could put in more continuous hot laps without my water temp reaching 250F. Hottest temp I saw was 240F and during the hot laps avg temp was 220F.

All in all, I could focus more on my lines, trail breaking technique, and pedal work instead of worrying about melting down my engine, which helped me to cut down 1.5 sec from my last outing.

Let me know your cooling mod results.
