Default Changing headlight lenses?

So I haven't decided yet if this is worth the effort, or maybe it is just a dumb idea. Both of my headlights have scratches on the inside of the lense. So my idea was to find some great condition regular halogen headlights and swap the lenses. Are the patterns on the lense themselves different? I wouldn't really imagine it affecting it anyways since it is a projector HID, so the output should still be the same.

If anyone has done this before, that'd be great to hear your experiences.

The outside housing (clear plastic) should be exactly the same.
As long as you don't get the ebay ones, I've heard those turn yellow/opaque quickly.

And the 03-05 are different than the 06-08.

Thank you that is very good to know. I guess what I'll do is wait till someone has some mint 03-05 halogen headlights and scoop em.
