First off: Sorry if there are already threads. I will gladly read through them if you link them, but given that I can only get online on weekends for the moment my search time is limited because I still have to conduct life outside of the interwebs, heh.

Now for the actual question:
I'm looking at a Vader 3 kit, some spoiler that will give downforce, and I don't have a clue about rims. I have no prior experience with exterior modifications whatsoever so I'm hoping someone here can help with numbers and suggestions on what to go with. From the little I've read, it seems that 6k is a decent number to shoot for with all of this so I'd like to not go over that.

I'm not set on any particular kit, but I like the idea of Duraflex and I'd really like a widebody kit. I'm shooting for a CF spoiler, but I'm open to suggestions. Now for rims....umm...black with a machined lip and as wide as I can go.

I don't expect you guys to do my research for me, but any help or links would be appreciated.

I'm really sleepy atm so please feel free to ask questions about what I've missed.

step 1. set a budget (not just for the wheels, but for the whole enchilada)

The number of possibilities is endless. Find a members car that you like. Duplicate it.

 

^^^ (Dito) To do a wide body, to do it justice, you also better add FI & build it otherwise you are just ricing out a decent looking car. At that point it seems to me in kit, custom wheels, & engine etc you are in the 30K+ range. I would suggest you simply go out & buy a GT-R or Z06 & get a warranty, resale value, & performance. In the end, with what you will do to a 350Z is have a car that might not get you what a stock Z does on resale so basically you are throwing away 30K. From my perspective, if you got 30K to throw away, you got enough to pay 60K to 120K for a much better car. For 120K, you can get a ZR1 which runs over 1 lat G, over 600hp stock, & some have run in the 10's in the 1/4 mile. I 100% know the resale value of the stock cars I menioned above will give you less headache, & better resale value. Uness you ae doing all the work yourself it really isnt about you getting the satisfaction of doing it yourself, you are simply paying someone else to do it. Maybe you will impress some but to guys like me, my first thought is that you wasted a lot of money & wonder how that will effect you financially later in life if you would have opted to use your money in another way.

Regardless how much you mod a Honda Civic, it is in the end a Civic. Nothing against a 350Z (because I own & love them) but in the end, regardless of what you do to it, it is a 30-40K entry level sports car, not a 60-70K car in which is the amount you will have invested in it to do it right.

Another option, which I think is maybe your best option is to sell your atock Z & buy a modded 350Z which gives you the mods for free. As you can see by the link below which is one of many, that you can pick up modded Z's for the price of stock.

This is why I wanted advice I hope the forums aren't hating me atm though and this actually posts. Last night I wasn't able to edit or post anything new so I was stuck with my initial post.

Who said anything about a track? I like my car to stick when I'm over 100mph cuz I don't really want to wind up in the wall.

Ok, so this won't happen for 6k it seems. It's not going to be a track car, but I'm trying to make it a clean show car that's still fun to drive.

As far as lateral G's go, I'm not sure exactly how accurate my meter is, but I've been at least .85 as stock according to it; I don't always have it on though. I thank you for the suggestions on replacing my car, but I am quite attached to the one I have. And buying a modded car probably means I'll be buying someone else's problems based off past experience.



So for around 6k, what would you guys suggest then? Maybe you have some ideas I've overlooked. My first thought is(and was originally) a turbo, but that can get expensive really fast...

 

Wheels, Coilovers, Sway bars and a nice bodykit (Do Luck, Amuse, chargspeed..etc)

You will love the car better with these every time you drive the car since you got the look and handling at the same time.

I never knew any prices or kits other than the ones ED sells because most sites I found had those listed with similar prices and so I thought that 1.5k for a kit was "high"....lol

Exactly & for 6K you will get a body kit & paint job & maybe minor mods like a sway bar, so it will be all show & no go. If that is what you want is a poser car than your budget should be ok. Again, why invest so much to have a car that is not a true performer? It is ok if you want it, different stokes for different folks as they say.

Regarding Turbo kits, they cost at least 5K + cost to install, have a relatively high risk of engine failure unless you build it & if you dont, then you got a possible blown up motor & by what it sounds, not enough money to rebuild the motor after it blows. I am just suggesting that it takes money to mod & risks involved. The engineers at Nissan know exactly what they are doing & when you modify it, you take away durability/warranty etc. Remember, you pay for a warranty when you buy a new car & when you mod the engine, void the coverage you are paying for.

I am not trying to be negative, just trying to get you to define your mod goals & understand how much it will cost (money pit with no return) if you match the handling & engine performance with your wide body kit. I have not seen a history of people recovering the mod cost for body kits & turbos. In fact it is the opposite, you usually get nothing back for the mods & have a hard time selling it (limited amount of buyers) because most people are fearful of buying a modded car or dont want it that way.

Be honest with yourself; will you be happy with a stock motor etc once you got a wide body kit? If not, how much are you really willing to throw at this car? Again, might be cheaper to buy a modded Z from some guy that needs cash & is selling his Z with 10-25K of mods on it for free in addition. Remember, times are hard, people are losing homes because of it & have to sell cars and/or want to buy a home & their Z becomes inpractical after getting married. These situations are opportunities for others.

Most guys do not listen to advise like this & have to throw away 20K of hard earned money to learn. If you can say, yep I am going to throw away ____ amount of money on mods & know I will never get that money back & it is ok, you are in a better place for understanding what you are actually doing.

Unlike many on this forum, I have spent time writing articles on modified Z's & know through them the kind of money invested. For example, I wrote one article in that was on 2 different turbocharged Z's. One guy rebuilt his motor 4 times, the other 3 times. They both started out with a turbo on a stock motor, then blew them up, then built the motors & blew those up a few times more.

If you really are gong to do this, keep asking lots of questions & know what you are fully getting into. First decide exactly how far you are going & if 6K is it, not as far as you may want. At this point you appear to be in love with the idea of modding a car without the practical experience thus you might get over your budget & regret it.

 

Let's see.. wheels=~$2000, Coilovers=$750-$900, sway bars= ~$300, a nice (replica) bodykit = $500-$1500

and the rest is for paint and installation.

I'm actually a fan of the Nismo kit and rims though the rims might be difficult to obtain. Thank you for all the feedback guys; I'll keep looking around.

 

no part of the NISMO kit is difficult to obtain - it's just expensive
