I don't think the struts will fix your problem. These will hold it up once you have it up about half way though. It will actually lift it up for you once you are about half way up. I don't think the struts have much power to lift the hatch at the angle of the hatch during almost closed times. I still have to lift up on mine while I push the button, but I have a wing so if yours is a spoiler, yours is probably lighter in weight and you might not need to do the lift thing while pushing the button.

I just ordered a set from the ebay guy. They're struts. If they work, they work.

I have an aftermarket Stillen V1 spoiler and every time I press the button on the remote to pop the trunk, it wont open all the way. I would have to press the button on the trunk again while using the other hand to move the hatch up.. Very annoying. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
Negative sir - thats the penny trick DIY on this forum I believe.. BUT you never know..I hope it does work..

Also - those that bought ebay ones - post up in a yr and let us know if they last...I would like to know as well.

Penny trick.

https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...ening-fix.html

Basically the strut isn't what pops the hatch up when you push the button, the springs are. With the pennies installed, it helps the springs. But you never know, the struts may do the trick by helping the springs a little.

That would not fix that problem though. The hatch struts kick in only after the hatch is raised up some inches. The spring lifts are supposed to pop the hatch open, not the struts.

did the penny trick and it seem to fix my "2 hands" method of opening the hatch with aftermarket spoiler. Now I can open the hatch while on the phone at the same time!! Awesome!!!

I tried the penny trick with the wing before. No luck. The downforce of the wing is just to strong. lol

I read some stories about folks trying more and more pennies to no avail.. which eventually pushed a dent through their hatch.

two pennies is cool .. don't go overboard dudes. : )

Anyone have the highest stage struts from 350zhatchshocksandmore.com? I only ask because even though the struts aren't designed to pop the hatch, with a strong enough strut, it could help the springs pop them. In theory...

not sure, but i dont think it'll work due to the angle of the shocks when the hatch is closed.

I emailed 350zhatchshocksandmore.com about the highest stage struts maybe helping to pop the hatch and after a couple emails back and forth, got some interesting info to share. They said that with a stock hatch, their stage 3 struts would pop up the hatch even if the penny trick isn't working. That's good news for the guys with a stock hatch. He also mentioned that his stage 4 would pretty much lift up a hatch with the GTC 300 wing after it was lifted up just a few inches. He said they are also working on a set of struts/shocks for carbon fiber hatches if I was using one. Doesn't do me any good since I don't plan on going wingless, but someone might need a set for their carbon hatch.

I bought the invotekken ebay ones too and they work great. unfortunately the penny mod did not fix the initial pop up part .. disappointing! I don't want to spend another 40$ just for that. not a big deal, at least my hatch stays up on its own now.

My Stage 3 Hatch Shocks from www.350zhatchshocksandmore.com make the hatch pop, and no more spring penny mod crap.
